Just wondering what peoples experiences have been getting an m18a conversion in a Jimny done legally and permitted in WA?

Is it possible? Much red tape? Expense?

Cheers

i believe a 1.8 is the max you can fit to a 1.3 standard fitment, however it's very likely there will be engineering involved including a brake test.

It's best you call DoT - they have a modifications division who can advise you and point you in the direction of the proper paperwork to gain their approval before you start work. After you have that approval and their guidelines (which they give you) - you contract and engineer, do the work, have them sign off on it then do any testing required before going over the pits for a FULL inspection of the whole vehicle before you're issued your modification papers.

I did my 1.6 conversion in my sierra as a part of my SPOA conversion with 31's, 15x7 rims, and sports seats and no back seats and all that other crap, so the engine conversion was glanced over by comparison, but essentially because it was done by suzistore it was rubber stamped unsighted. They didn't even check the engine number matched my application! I just popped the bonnet and they went "yep, right, so onto the lift..."

Awesome, thanks alien.

I was hoping to do the swap myself and with a mates help. We are both very capable mechanically and with Jimny's specifically but if it would make the process easier, maybe a Suzistore visit might be worth the cost.

If it's running off the M13 computer I reckon it'l have to pass an emissions test. A fellow on here had that combo engineered over east (NSW?) and he had to do the emissions test, I can't remember the name but it should be easy to find with a search.

If you do go through with it I'd be very keen to hear what you have to do.

I'll be running an aftermarket ecu.

I'm definitely going to do it though, I love the Jim but its sooo under powered.

Just saw this. If you are south of the river or don't mind a drive, hit up Jack at Packard Automotive in Jandakot. DOT engineering signatory and has a couple of zook lovers on staff.
