So the tell tale has just started to leak, maybe 200mls @ 100K's. Will it be a catastrophic failure, or just get gradually worse ?. tar bye |

I reckon 45 minutes from start to finish now! You really cant stuff it up provided you align the timing belt properly. I had assumed it would be really twitchy and hard to get perfect and it isn't, its very tractor-like and is either correct or not and pretty easy to tell which is which. A small torque wrench is handy for when you do up the timing tensioner pulley and the cover bolts but if you have a calibrated wrist you can make do. |

Yeah, I've read on here before that it's not a big job, but it took me four hours to replace a uni the other day, in the end I got the fitter around, and used the old circlips. This water pump is not that old, 10 m- 20,000 K's, done 5yrs ago, I still got the old pump, and have been mulling over using it. It won't need timing chain or seal, as this was all done last time. I think I'll pull it apart today, and go into Mareeba, and if they've good one there, I'll buy it, if not the old but goodie will just go in. tar bye |

I just put the one I replaced 5yrs ago back in. Everything looked good in there. Took 5hrs, but most of that time was spent removing a bolt I broke off, and finding and cutting a bolt that would fit. Had one minor heart attack, after putting the timing belt back on, I fired it up to see if all was well. When I looked at the belt, the top pulley mark and the belt mark were out, then I realized I'd put a mark on the adjuster and belt too. I'll buy a new water pump when I'm next in Cairns, I'll just drive on Karma till then. Maybe 2hrs next time. Thanks bye |

The motors aren't interference motors or so I'm lead to believe so even if you get the timing wrong it shouldn't cause damage (big emphasis on 'shouldn't') but just won't run well if at all. You can't stuff it up really |

Thanks for the link, I'll get one. Does it really need a new timing belt, it's done between 10 & 20,00 Ks in five years. Putting the belt on was a bit hard, it didn't just slip on, I had to punch it on, even with all the adjustment let off on the thingy. At the moment I'm only driving 30K's on sealed, and 20 of dirt, and only use low range for a couple of K's. Thanks again. bye |

I've got one coming tomorrow from Bluesuzy's link, not putting a new belt on, motors passed it's useby date. I will probably wait for the old one to start leaking, I could do it in the bush now. bye |
