I am looking at buying a LWB Vitara EFI for Camping and going on medium difficulty 4wd tracks.

What would you recommend to look out for when buying a LWB Vitara EFI?

What modifications do you recommend I do?

An auto it’s be best thing about a LWB vitara.
Watch out for rust around the windscreen and roof rails, floor, under the battery tray
Chassis cracks around the strut towers
Damage to the front crossmember and gearbox crossmember
Most will have fairly worn engines unless they’ve been changed.

They’re not a bad car by any means but they’re mostly getting pretty long in the tooth now.

Personally I'd look at the later SV620 model over a 1.6. They're a bit rarer but they're a nicer vehicle and you get a bigger motor.

If it's a 1.6 I'd check for signs of a cracked block/head as that's very common.

The V6s are known for timing chain rattle so you'l want to hear it start cold.

You'l also want to check 4wd works. Some of these have never been offroad and seized free wheeling hubs ect aren't uncommon.

The exhaust manifolds regularly crack. A RWC might pick that up if it is choofing. A fix is extractors - factor in $400ish if you get an exhaust joint to do it.
A loose harmonic balancer is something to look for. If the bolt in the end of the crank comes loose, it can flog out the keyway, cause timing / running issues, pretty much turns the engine into scrap.
SWB not that great on camping, depending on how you pack / camp & roof racks are an issue.
Fuel range can also be an issue.

A little suspension lift, 30-40mm, a bit of guard & plastics trimming, 30x9.5R15 tyres of your choice & a rear diff lock would be a good start.

Recommend return to this and skip the SWB idea.

Two inch body lift and 30" tyres will get you near anywhere.

Good set of exhaust extractors, and a decent exhaust system will virtually pay for itself in relatively short time with improved power and economy.
