Post subject:  Sierra aftermarket manual hubs
Hi all,

Can anyone recommend some afternarket manual hubs for a Sierra?
I just pulled my old ones apart (due to no 4wd) and they are cooked. The grease was like dust and they don’t look like they can be salvedged!

I’ve seen a few different types on eBay.

Can you scab a pair from the wreckers?

I’d check the local tips for any Sierras laying around. Pop a ‘wanted’ ad on gumtree and here on AZ wanted section. There’s gotta be plenty around for stuff all cost.

Post some pics of your hubs. Might be salvageable? Of course the O rings will usually need replacing and the outer X ring seal is a prick to get hold of (except I believe Toyota landcruiser and/or Hilux ones are the same but I haven’t tested the theory myself yet).

Edit: I see you’re in Kununurra!! I’d be checking a few of the local communities or stations.. bound the be a pair laying around [emoji6]

2nd edit!! There’s a guy wrecking a Sierra in Darwin, worth a shot.

Ive got some avm single piece ones that are prob the best of the aftermarket ones about. Located in perth
Steer clear of the avm 2 piece ones with the smaller hex head bolts around the outside.

Thanks bumstein! I ended up getting some AVM ones like the ones Mr Rocky was talking about from eBay for a good price, but I will keep my old ones and have a go at cleaning them up and see if I can get them going again. Never done it before but I’m all for learning! I’ll post pics once I figure out how haha!

I’ve never seen a stock hub that couldn’t be recovered. They’re simple and robust.

The outer hub lock/spring component is interchangeable with tritons/hiluxes ect... lots of other jap models with aisan hubs

Problem no. 2... I’ve cleaned up the hubs they seem to be ok. Gone to put them back on and it’s like the splines are different now??? as in the base of the hub won’t physically go over the splines. This is on the right front wheel. On the left wheel, the hub goes on ok but the axle does not stick out enough to put the circlip back on??

Circlip is a fiddly issue but can be solved. For putting the circlip back on I always use circlip pliers as it’s easier that stuffing around with screwdrivers etc..

With the hub off pull the axle so it’s out as far as free play will allow. Pop the hub back on, sometimes a flathead screwdriver helps lever the circlip groove out a little more. Fiddly..

As for the other hub nothing springs to mind. Go back over it and check that something isn’t placed incorrectly..

There is a threaded hole in the center of the axle. Screw a 12mm hub bolt in and pull it out then circlip goes on easy.

Problem solved, now have 4wd and I can get out and enjoy some of these waterfalls in the wet season. Thanks everyone for your help!
