Hey guys, iv got a 2000 carry ute awd. I have decided to cut the lower mount of the front struts and increase the length by 3inchs. Should gain lift and tyre clearance.... Seemed like a good idea but as I was die grinding the weld away I noticed the weld on the base not only held the mount it also sealed the bottom of the shock. My question is has anybody done this, is there a longer strut I can use. Also does any one have strut dimensions they could give me of vitara struts. Open and close length, lower mount holes, shock thread and length to seat and tube diameter. Thanks guys

Just space the top strut mount down.

Doesn't help with tire clearance. That's the whole reason he is extending the bottom. The bottom spring pad has minimal clearance with a 185/60R15(lets call it 24"). Makes running a 26" tire impossible as it would hit the bottom pad. Most decent muddies/at's start around 26".

A 3" extension on the base of the strut would move the lower pad out of the way. Alternatively a factory strut that has the lower pad higher than the stock carry one could work. IE Viatara might work, if someone with a 2" lifted strut or even a stock one could take some measurements of.
