Hey guys new to this board and carby engines.
I bought a 91 2 door hard top vitara, 1.6 jx model, had the mechanic do a bunch of stuff to it (new fuel pump etc), and said it was good to go except that the automatic choke didnt appear to be opening freely and cold start up idle was sitting at about 2300 rpm. He said it was probably a bit stuck and had sprayed it with wd40. Anyway i read about it a bit here and a haynes manual i have and decided to spray the choke with carby cleaner. (i sprayed the spring and surrounding mechanisms which seemed a bit gummy). I might add too when i took off the air filter cover i disconnected a couple of hoses, 2 to the right of the case. and one little one connecting to the case itself which was attached to a orange and black jet or something.
Either way once i put it back together and started it up, it felt like the choke wasnt working at all! (opposite problem to before i touched anything) and it shakes and shudders and feels like it will stall, then reaches about 1200 revs and seems stable, at this point when its idling the engine sounds alot healthier than before. iv tried a few things like pumping the accelerator a few times before start up and it seems smoother for sure than when i dont. Basically im wondering why it feels like the choke isnt working at all anymore, and also did i reconnect the hoses wrong. Hoping i havnt done damage to it!! learnt my lesson not to tinker with shit thats out of my depth.
i have some photos of the jet (hopefully i put it back the right way?) and also a vacuum hose that appears to be bulging and leaking coolant.
really hope i havnt stuffed it, i love driving in sand! any help would be much appreciated, cheers!
