| Post subject: | Composite Leaf Springs |
Anyone have experience using Composite leaf Springs. I have a 1993 Sierra LWB Maruti with leaf front and rear end. A couple of internet claims around state that the Composite Springs will make it ride like a Coil spring front end. Big claims. Has anyone fitted some? |

Any leaf sprung car can ride “like a coil” if the spring and shock rate is correctly chosen. Composite leaves offer reduced internal friction, as there are no leaves to rub against each other. That’s neither good or bad, it just means composite leaves will require more shock valving. I don’t know how many rates composite leaves are made in, but steel leaves generally need their rate or camber tuned to optimise ride. I don’t think that’s possible with composite leaves. In short, if the car is exactly the right weight I’m sure composite leaves will ride awesome- the same is true for steel springs. |

Thank you. Can they really get my Leaf to feel like a Coily? My suspension shop changed my Shocks recently and the ride is better, but front end feel is still categorized as harsh. Rode in a Coil the other day and the ride is chalk and cheese with mine. |

It shouldn’t be. In my experience there’s little difference in ride between a coil and leaf Sierra. (The same is not true for steering feel and precision) Which springs and shocks are you running? |

I am told it has a 2 inch Spring lift, just changed the shocks, made some difference. tyres are at 30 psi. i have a new canopy due in a week which is about 50 kilos heavier, so i'll see if this makes much difference. |

I run 20psi. Drop the pressures and it'll ride much better |
