G'day everyone, I'm new here and am still yet to buy a Suzuki but am in the market for a Sierra or Jimny. I've been 4wding for years and have just sold my 79 dual cab and still have a 75 fj40 with a 253 in it. I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit over the fuel consumption. It's making me second guess even going out on certain trips anymore which for me is defeating the purpose of owning a 4wd. Fuel is going to become more of an issue as time goes by. I was just curious what the rough fuel consumption is of some of these cars? Cheers, Sam. |

The various Suzukis (multiple LJs, Sierras and Jimnys) I've had generally got between 9-12l/100km. Not great compared to a lot of modern diesels but reasonable real world economy on 91 and parts are cheap. In my experience Suzukis get the best economy around town or on lower speed roads, worst at 110km/h. Vastly worse economy in the dunes of course. If you got a stock Jimny or Sierra you could get better than that but tiny h/t tyres and no clearance isn't for everyone. |

10l/100km is pretty typical. |

14L/100km with Weber 32/36 DGEV average around town 12ish on a run (yes it 'cruises' at 100 kmh) 30" tyres |

I really don't get all this paranoia over the price of fuel Few years ago it was the cheapest it has ever been in real terms. When I started driving in the '70s I needed to work 6 hours for a tank of fuel (basic wage ... only ever been in basic wage jobs it would seem) About 2016 or thereabouts I needed to work 4 hours for a tank of fuel Now, with so many whining about the price of fuel ... it seems that I on the basic minimum wage, need to work about 6 hours for my tank of fuel ... Anyhoo ... in response to the question, My 94 Vit runs at about 10 L per 100, and my mate's 95 Sierra is the same. My son'e 2010 GV also uses about the same. My '08 Falcon also uses about 10 litres per hundred kms ... whilst towing the Vitara on the trailer ... ... |

I agree with Shep. I own a Jimny and work on 10l/100km. That is 400km per tank though I do get 450km. I have driven around Aus and the fuel range was the biggest issue ending up carrying 3 jerry cans so that at least I could do some off the main road tracks. 3 jerry cans take up a lot of the already limited space. I would like a long range tank but no one makes them for a 2015 Jimny. Shep, what is your fuel range? |

Shep, what is your fuel range? +1 When we go touring in Suzukis we normally have 2 jerry cans (25land a 20l) and the fuel range is the biggest limiting factor when traveling. I bank on about 300kms out of the Jimnys tank, it often uses 12l/100. The odometer is 11% out so when it says 270 I'm pretty well done. Even on the highways that's dicey for range in a couple of spots up north. I was looking at the Brown Davis tanks that just came out for new Jimnys. It would be easy enough to fit one to a 3rd gen I think, the only difference in the chassis back there is the new one has a rear crossmember, the crossmember behind the diff is the same. It'd be easy to fab one up and bolt it to the tow bar mounts to mount the tank. You'd probably want to check on a new one for the shape of the floor ect. https://www.browndavis.com.au/suzuki-ji ... fuel-tank/ Personally I'd rather it all in one tank like these, then it's more convenient and all the weights within the wheelbase. No one seems to have taken the plunge and tried to fit one of these to a 3rd gen yet. I haven't had them side by side but the chassis looks near enough the same where the tank goes, probably depends on floor clearance but mine has a 2" body lift anyway. http://thelongranger.com.au/suzuki/jimn ... rrent/tr87 I ordered a 75L tank for my Sierra a couple of weeks back. Not cheap but I always wanted one and I figure you probably aren't going to be able to get them all that much longer. That should give a very comfortable 600+kms without having to touch a Jerry, what bliss! |

The Suzuki I am building will only have a 80-100km range |

Complaining about short range in a Sierra is like complaining a Ferrari makes a terrible tow car. It’s a car for driving from the village to the rice paddy and back each day. In their designed environment they probably need a tank of fuel a month. |
