| Post subject: | Front indicators not working |
Trying to get a roadworthy on a 1998 Vitara G16B/Financially ruin myself. Neither front indicator is working, nor is the drivers side side indicator. Side indicator and one front indicator was rusted. Front one rusted to the point of not being able to get the globe out. The other one was perfectly fine though not working. 1. I'm guessing the rusted one blew something? What and where? 2. Is there a reasonable replacement or do i just look for a wreck? 3. How can i prevent rust in future? I assume something needs to be resealed? |

Hi Luke Yes Rust never sleeps and loves old. I am not sure what you experience is with electrical goods and if you are able to test the wires to see if they pass current. I would recommend getting a simple circut tester which is a clip with a wire(negative end) and goes into something about the size of a pen with a sharp point (positive end). The point is so you can push through the insulation cover of the wire to get to the copper in the middle. Clip the wire onto an earth point on the body. with the pointed end touch the positive terminal on the battery and a light should light up in the tester. turn the power on at the key and turn the indicator on with the positive pointy end test if you have power at the plug for the bulb, if not work your way back and find out if you have power anywhere along the line as it maybe a matter of replacing a section or renewing a connection If you have power before the bulb socket and not after then you should know what to replace, but keep working your way back to the fuse board and test if you have power on both sides of the fuse. (you could do this first) Hope that helps isolate the issue Cheers Andy |
