Just wondering if anyone has looked at / driven one of these yet?

It's yet another underpowered new model (same 86kW engine as the S-Cross), but at least they've gone away from CVT's and put a proper 6 speed auto in. I noticed it did quite well in the "Drive Car of the Year" City SUV section against the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 http://www.drive.com.au/car-of-the-year ... l6q9d.html

I'm looking at changing vehicles and thought it looks like a possible option for a city runabout for the wife?

Looked at it & liked it - nice packaging size, but sounds under-powered (haven't driven one)
I notice they dropped the "Grand" of the name of the previous 2 generations, reverting back to just "Vitara" - might be leaving room for a bigger, more powerful version (turbo would be interesting) in the near future?
As a city runabout, I think it looks ideal.

It appears to be a step in the right direction. (If only they'd put an engine with a bit more grunt in it.)

It would be good to know what they've got planned as the GV replacement- even if it was just a more modern drivetrain upgrade.

I was looking at some specs on Carsales and found the 2WD's 0-100km/h time is 12.5 seconds and the AWD half a second slower again at 13 seconds! It's like looking at the specs for some antiquated 4 cylinder car from the 1980's.

The extra $10k odd for the RT-X is hard to swallow too.

Supposedly a turbo version is coming in 2016 - but don't get too excited as it's still only going to have 103kW of power and 220Nm of torque. :( http://www.caradvice.com.au/403338/suzu ... -australia

Turbo model has same output as the renegade. Probably he same motor? Reality is all cars ar getting weaker in most aspects to get fuel economy. I wouldn't complain with under 6 litres per 100 but.

A lot of them don't seem to attain anywhere near those economy figures in the real world though. This test they got 7.8l/100km from the RT-X.

Where I live it's hilly and the accelerator would be getting a work out. I'd much prefer more power and not needing to use as much accelerator travel.

i loked at it and was invited to test drive one before they were officially release.

They are alot smaller than the old GV.
manual only available in the base model 2wd.
AWD is auto only.
fit and finish was average and styling is a bit odd. Trys to continue the GV but fails.

Didnt even bother to drive it as it was notwhat we wanted.

They're meant to be a modern version of the old Vitara - so not a replacement/ equivalent of the larger Grand Vitara.

I'm wondering if/ when a new Grand Vitara will be arriving? Hopefully it will be more substantial and not simply a stretched version of this.

I'd put money on the next GV being transverse/AWD.

The market isn't interested in low range and there's very little RWD transmission/transfer case development in the lighter end of the market.

The turbo version would be the only one I'd consider (as a city runabout for the wife.)

I'm not keen on their latest servicing intervals of 6mths though. I bought my Kizashi in 2012 and it's under a 12mth interval which works well for the low km I travel. Every 6mths would be money down the drain for me.

Subaru is 6months also, synthetic oil will do that. Yeah they told us a bout the turbo that's coming out. But there was nothing I liked about the new vitara and the grand vitara was exactly the same as the 2012 we were trading in, except it didn't have the Suzuki badge on the back and they had gone up in price.

Its like an S-cross but with different panels... that pretty much sums it up..
The 1.6 in our S-cross screams for a Turbo on hills..

No, it's got one big advantage over the S -Cross - a proper 6 speed automatic trans. No CVT.

I'd be interested in the turbo for a second vehicle. They're supposed to handle quite well, so with the extra power it could be a decent thing. But, they really need to price it competitively to vehicles like the Trax LTZ (which won't happen.)

We considered the Vit for about 10 mins and then went and bought a SSS Pulsar Hatch.

Similar interior space but bigger back seat and is a 1.6 turbo with a 6speed manual, full leather, sat nav etc etc..... and the missus is glad to be back in a Pulsar. Its her 3rd.

Does the Vitara sit much higher than something like the Pulsar (ie. easier to get in/ out of for people who have mobility issues.)

IIRC they're advertising the Vitara (bottom model with auto) for $22990 drive away. That doesn't seem too bad if the gutless engine isn't an issue. :roll:

The 2WD turbo model actually sounds like a decent vehicle (handling, engine power, equipment and price.)

I pity anyone who paid the premium for the RT-X (atmo AWD) which has now been scrapped.

Why would you go 2wd though? If you want a bigger wagon but no 4wd just go for a damn wagon not a wanna be 4wd.

Few new ones getting around in mandurah, their owners seem to love smashing them around but they're still super slow

Got a phone call from the local Suzuki dealer here in Geelong as I was interested in the 'new' GV, but once I told him that I had (at the time) purchased a '07 GV Prestige (2nd hand) less than 8 months earlier, that was the last I heard from him.

tell this to all the Ford territory owners, at least 50% of them are 2WD, so there is some sort of market for them.

Have you tried to find a small/ mid size wagon lately (excluding VW products.....) that isn't an SUV? There aren't many to choose from as they're all going to SUV type bodies. An SUV is also a lot easier for entry / egress if you've got medical complaints. :wink: (Plus the Vitara turbo AWD is over priced!)

Ford scrapped the Falcon wagon many years ago- so a 2WD Territory is it if you want a Falcon type wagon. Lancer and Corolla wagons also ceased production many years ago- instead you have the ASX/ Outlander and Rav4 / Prius V?

Yeah, I drive a forester haha I wouldn't call that an SUV IMO, still a wagon with a decent ride height, turbo version is fun too

Yes, it is basically a FWD with east west engine. The Jimny/ GV are a dying breed.
