Just thought I'd do a very quick write up in this section of my trailer I setup a few years ago. :)
Doing it this way saved me over $1500 than buying one already done.

Oztrail Camper 6 trailer tent

Image

Standard 6x4 box trailer

Image

Image

SPOA For it to sit level with the car

Image

Cut and welding on a longer drawbar and treg hitch

Image

Chopped off the side tie down rails.

Image

Swing out tailgate with gate hinges

Image

A brace from across the tailgate makes it square again as well as add's another mounting point for the tent

Image

Time to paint it in Charcoal hammertone. I also seam sealed any edges to stop dust and water getting in between any gaps.

And the finishing touch

Tent time and I also wired in some LED tail lights.

Great job. Our 6 is about 8 years old and still in great condition. Mrs ZN loves it. At 100kg it's quite light considering that it's equivalent to a good size tent, 6sq.m open covered awning area and mattress.

I wish they made the 6x4 tent to match a 105cm high trailer

Mine's at full stretch when set up on firm ground but on soft sand and aired down it work well but I don't think my trailer is that high.

I pre measured a 6 on display at a camping store, built my trailer to the right height then did SPOA.

Another alternative is to take it to a canvasser and get the base lengthened to suit what ever height you want.

Oh also, Not much of an update, but It got me thinking, I don't have a spare, and don't really want one. So without going for a 4wd AT or mud tyre, What is a good tyre that is puncture resistant, Is close to the size of a regular tyre and will comfortably fit under the guards..

So I picked up some used Pirelli Rally tyres :D

If they go flat, the sidewall is stiff enough to keep driving and the aggressive tread pattern makes sure it doesn't slide around on dirt or muddy tracks :)

Just get some huds to suit the Vit that way you can run the same wheel and tyre setup

The Vit is no more, but for new hubs = $ 100+

Used rally tyres, $0.00
