Reech - I hope the corrugations are all gone by the time we get there. Bohuler - Tare weight is approx 350 kg. Ball weight will be approx 30kg and the jacks are supose to reduce the rockin... Scrawn - Yes Mate it is large enough to sleep in and perhaps even (If i am lucky) get the van Rockin. Thanks Guys will post more pics once guards, doors and edging are on.

Some wicked work there mate!!! really impressive. Luhrsy68 wrote: Reech - I hope the corrugations are all gone by the time we get there.
Dont like your chances there mate, there is ALWAYS bad corrugations, the road work crews are on a rotational basis up there. So by the time they get to grading the last section, the first section has gone to shit. Plan on strapping EVERYTHING down. My battery tray on my zook got ripped out of its mounts, and that was bolted down.... So yeah, plan for the extreme. Would suck to have all your gear strewn all over the camper each time you pull up, or worse... have to leave the camper on the side of the road and drive home with a bare trailer chassis because it decided to become 2 seperate pieces.... We saw a professionally made fourby camper trailer (maybe a GIC) flipped on its roof when we were up there last, decided to get airborne on a corrugated section that honestly didnt seem that bad, must have got a harmonic going on or something. Food for thought with the short track width. hows the entry/exit angle too with the trailer on? will be interesting on some of the steep drop ins youll see on the tele' track. Not to mention the water crossings. Sorry to be a negative nancy, just hoping you've considered all the aspects of the cape trip.. once again, top work! I rate it highly and think more people should have a crack at these, perfect vehicle for it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The guards and hubs were from Active Fabrications in Beenleigh. Hubs fit Suzuki and were F100 stud pattern. We have put some thought into the trip up north and I am pretty sure the trailer is built tough enough to get there and back. The speed of a Sierra with trailer will be limited to approx 80 on the tar and less on the dirt. I guess we'll have to see... Good thing is we are in a convoy of 5 cars so do have support if needed. The welding was done by a mate who is a boiler maker by trade and handy with a mig. I will be sure to post pics of the trip on AZ.

I did Cape York in a Moke back in 1986. The fast driving on corrugations, although feeling smoother on your arse, broke things, mainly suspension related parts. Those that plodded slowly along had no problems. Some of my tins of food had rubbed together and split. I suggest driving slow on corrugations, boring maybe? but a bit better than constant repairs.

Lookin' good there fellas. Luhrsy, I reckon your teardrop, with the "squared" body work would be a lot easier to put together than your cousins (with its more rounded profile) I am curious about how your cousin will finish his with its curved surfaces! bending ply isnt too hard- with patience and some care (but can go pear shaped sometimes...) What thickness ply are you using, and what is the final exterior skin? I think you two should draw up a set of plans, with a cutting list and construction tips and hints, then put it all together on a disc and make some beer money out of it all. I like how much of the body is based on standard sized sheets of ply with very little wastage. looking forwards to seeing both finished and raring to go! Stephen.
