If you have a Costco nearby it's worth a visit for Camping gear. They have a small but pretty good range of brand name stuff that's of excellent quality.

Got a effing big esky that's nearly the width of the zooks ute tray that I'm going to use for storage for 120.

After comparing to the local camping shops I also bought a Coleman tent from them too for 99 bucks it's a model the local guys don't have and appears to be a step up from everything else for the money.

I don't trust anyone, i would never leave anything of a higher value out at a campsite. I even lock my alcohol and food away in the trailer whilst out on day trip. Someone mentioned on here that they would leave their fridge at camp when they when wheeling, fuck that.

I don't think you need to pack up your tent, just don't leave anything valuable laying round

none really steals tents, more snatch n run items like lights, eskys and shit. but tents are normally too bulky/pegged down/too hard

if someone is staying at camp then no big problem.
if no one is staying then only leave stuff you can do without.

I own a Sierra so I can go where there are no people. No people means no problems with thieves.

so set up my tent yesterday and it was a breeze. Pretty easy for a first timer. I Soaked it with water and let it dry and repeated the process today twice.

I always lock valuables away, but still feel very exposed camping. It would just take a joker thinking its funny to poke a hole in my inflatable mattress, or steal my shoes, flog my pillows, etc to ruin the trip.

And when you're swimming it's worse, with your keys in your bag...

Haven't had anything go missing yet.

Yep, remember setting up in Coral Bay caravan park (near Exmouth WA) with a mate a good few years back – rolled out the swags, set up the gas stove and gas light, walked to the pub, came back to just 2 swags. Worst bit was the stolen gear had been lent to us and so had to be replaced as soon as we got home.

My mates got the same tent last summer (his girlfriend made him get a taller tent so she could stand up and get dressed in it), we have spent about 20 nights camping this year and he never had a drama. He was the only person in our camp at tuff truck that didn't get drenched.

If your really worried about waterproofing, a can of scotch guard will take care of it.

Had a similar tent for years.
Never leaked, and
I never leak treated it.
Only problem was the plastic clips broke in the severe cold,
I replaced with cable ties, got many more trips out of it.

Don't use tent since I got a camper (I softened :) )
Now the poles are part of my sand flag :)

No he didn't scotch guard it, he is the laziest person i know, he is lucky to even peg it out.

Tents are always humid, i try to leave the fly open when i can to keep a breeze going through it, or open up the fly just after dark and let the hotter air escape (now i mean leave the mesh closed, just the outer fly open)

I have this tent, it opens up both sides and its still a pain to keep cool

If you want it to last a bit longer, buy a cheapie tarp to use as a ground sheet to put your tent on. Cut the tarp to fit under the tent but inside the edges, ie not hanging outside the tent otherwise it will collect water when it rains and pool under the tent.

Also set it up in the back yard and give it a hose, you might find you need to get some seam sealer if it leaks

THIS

But, rather than use a tarp. Buy a small length of green shadecloth... That way, it doesnt matter if its bigger than the tent (in fact its better if it IS bigger), water will just go straight through. It still keeps the tent base clean and is awesome to use as a small doormat to wipe your feet at the entrance etc, and dust/sand/dirt mostly just falls through it.

I use mine all the time, its lightweight and makes packing up so much better and cleaner

ah well. if you use it enough a tarp will wear down pretty quick too compared to the shadecloth. Plus you can roll a shadecloth up easier than a tarp.
