A knife works great as a can opener. I don't even bother taking a can opener with me.

Camping you need one pan food
Everything gets cooked in one pan
Breakfast bacon and cheese burrito- throw pan in esky no washing required Lunch - Subway ( just get no sauces as it makes the bread soggy)and it tasty and awesome. Dinner - steak bacon and cheese sandwiches throw pan in esky no washing up Breakfast bacon and cheese burrito Lunch eat on the way home
Snacks packets of chips, lollies etc etc
Beer x 11 billion
Sorted

Or one full of spirits if you dont want/need a full glass bottle of rum on your trip, plus less glass. Oh another good one, I have a 240v worklight that I put a 100w equiv CFL Bulb into, run this via a cheap beer-can inverter... BEST camp light ever. I might go LED one day when I find one that throws out a decent flood like this one does, but nothing comes close to be honest. or as cheap ($2 bucks a bulb)

But i reckon it aint camping unless you've forgotten something. Everyone forgets something. Main items really is a Tent, Pilow, blanket and self inflating bed (they are the most comfiest and warmest things ever) and an esky with bourbon or beer. The rest you can get at a servo on the way like ice. You can't ever go wrong with tinned spag or even spam i still enjoy and lasts forever. After your first trip, you will know exactly your basics and what-not. I was used to going with my gf and then we broke up and first time i went without her, i had no tent, bed, food, water (always had alcohol lol - but the hangover next day) and her. Lucky my mate had a huge 8-man tent ( i dont know why) and i slept on 2 towels on hard dirt. 3 degrees that night in Nanga Mill (near P.L) Night i wont forget haha. But your going in summer so all is sweet Get that self inflating mattress! It is a must! And make sure you do up the bungs on the end.

You will forget shit. its camping.
what i do is make sure you put what you forget in your phone or notepad to add to your own "camping list" saves on forgetting next time
Mine is a excel spreadsheet that i keep on Google docs so i can access it anywhere/anytime via phone or pc. then whenever I want to go camping its easily accessible at work, home, or on the trail. Best thing is, my missus has shared access to the same list so we can tick things off or add things in real time.... eg. she goes to one set of shops and ill go to another, we dont ever double-up as its sync'ed to each other
We came to this method because I work away from home and its the easiest way for us to have shopping/to-do lists without having to text each other all the time. but it works fantastic for camping also.
Only time I forget shit now is if i forget to re-stock my camping boxes when i get home.

Basically, shove in everything until it's full. Shut door. Drive. Camp. Here we are loaded up for ten days in the outback (nine different campsites) with 60 litres fuel and 30 litres water up top, plus firewood for when we were in national parks. Arranged a fuel dump half way on a sheep station and picked up water at churches and town halls. We use compression (vacuum) bags to squish down everything that's squash-able.

You can fit heaps in a sierra if you put a bit of effort into it. This is everything needed for a 6 week camping trip plus I also fitted in Enough dry food and frozen cow to last my family of 3 about 6 months. In the car is a 150ltr esky, 40ltr fridge, 250ltr space case, 10x20ltr fuel cans and 3x20ltr water cans plus a dog, swag and heaps of other shit.
