Hey hey!
I'm looking into purchasing/ making a trailer for two or three motorbikes. But still keeping it practical for gear like swags and jerry cans and what not.
I'm searching to see if anyone could send me some photos or handy tips and information, or just anything to share with me to help me along the right track!
I have seen a fair few motorbike trailers online for the $300 mark which would be in the perfect price range for me. I'm quite handy so all the fixing up and modifying shouldn't be to hard either.
If you could recommend little fixtures too!! Has anyone used the rock-in motorbike wheel holders? Not too sure what they are called but I'll search for a picture!
Basically all and any help would be great! Thanks

 Started life as a jet ski trailer. Axle has same difference in WMS to WMS as sierra, 3 or 4mm tread plate for the floor (actually used as tread plate), the front is the tread plate bent at slightly less than 45 degrees in two places. Tie down points are pieces of open link chain or whatever you call them welded to the plate. Still need to add channel for the front wheels for added security, although the bikes DO NOT move. Probably a better move to buy a trailer than convert one like I did. Although mine should be solid as hell (materials wise, maybe not workmanship  ) and because of the curved steel front, protect your two wheeled mate from rocks better. Tows nicely at 100 on flat road, need to drop to fourth on hills.

Oh, the plan is to chuck my swag on there after the bikes off, for spyda and centi-peed free sleeping. (Hopefully snake free too)
And I forgot, if I were to do it differently I would make it with removable sides, ute tray style. Planning to add removable bars for a canopy/rack etc... but thats going to happen at NT time, maybe never.

That's great!! Sounds exactly what I'm looking to make. I would eventually like to do the removable canopy bars for my kayak or a rack for other goodie.
Even though they don't move you still want to put the wheels in grooves or a small track, what would your idea be for this? Just a "U" shaped bit of metal welded/ drilled into the floor?

Hey also what do you do with your ramp? Tie it on the trap or does it for in the Sierra?

You could use bits of channel, I'm just going to weld flat bar on there at the right widths.
Ramp goes in sierra, only just fits

This is mine. Can tow 3 bikes easily with room for a few Jerry cans. Towed it out to manar park with both bikes 2 spares and 3 Jerry cans. You can fold it up and put it at the back of your garage but I don't bother because I use it every weekend. Weighs like 250kg or something and can put 500kg onto it. If you have the sides on, the back gate lifts up and comes out and you can use that as a ramp, also one on the front. Might be a bit out of your price range at $1500. Also have sheet metal on the sides now so it's all boxed in    This is their website. http://www.easytrailer.com.au/

Here is mine! Cost a little more ($2100) but it can tow 3 bikes with room for tools etc in the tool box and room on the back to slide swags etc up between the bikes. I would also highly recommend the front wheel stands, very handy and can be removed and make the trailer a flat bed. Platinum trailers in sydney sell the stand.

Sweet. That's what I'm looking to get, a basic flat bed with a tool box on the front and those rock-in wheel stands. So you'd recommend the stands? I have seen a few online for around $80, just wondering of they are worth it.

Those stands are pretty awesome, and our next bike trailer will have them. Let you put the bike in and it stays up without the straps, so loading with 1 person is easy and stops the handlebars from turning when you tighten the straps down. I'd go for a spare wheel mount as well and a 2nd jerry can holder if you ride with both 2 and 4 strokes. If the box is an expensive option grab one from bunnings, you can get them pretty cheap and in a bunch of sizes. One thing I didn't like when I saw one up close was that the tie down points are so narrow. They should be wider to stop the bike from wobbling, but the owner said they were pretty stable.

Another good way of getting ideas for bike trailers is from gumtree, there is always heaps of them for sale with pics to steels ideas from Them wheel clamp thingos do they make them for quads?

Yeah I think I'll get the stands! Looks super practical! Good idea with two jerry can holders! And I didn't even notice that Bunnings have car tool boxes. I'll have a look some time soon.
Yeah this thread started because I was searching on gumtree for motorbike trailers! I haven't seen them for quads before bit I'm sure there is something put there.

Saw some bloke today with that fold up bike trailer. Looks pretty good though maybe only worth it if you really have limited space. From what I could see it was really only single purpose and that is to carry a bike. Which I guess is what it is made for, but I'd be looking into a bit more versatility. Still a pretty interesting piece of equipment with all the folding and clips and fiddly bits! And wheel barrow sun raisers as the wheels.

I want to beef it up a bit and put a roof top above the bikes along with a couple solar panels too and make it into a camper/bike trailer. Would make the top removable of course for when I don't need it.

I just converted my 6x4 box trailer by adding some gal channel to run the wheels in. Works really well and I use the tailgate for the loading ramp. Plenty of spare room for fuel and spares etc in the trailer. When I get home I take out the channel and my trailer is back to normal. I use it for a KLX and a DRZ, not a KTM, but maybe its time for an update.

Yeah that's basically what I'm doing with my mates at the moment. It works great but wouldn't mind a bit more of a proper setup. But yeah it works like a charm. Haha klx's are the shit too. But yeah I think so. Just don't buy one like mine and need to replace the piston and rings and all the gaskets within a month of owning it...  angry tom over here.

Lucky 2 bangers are a piece of piss to work on. Did you buy it from a dealer or private? Whatever you do, if you're looking into an EFI KTM like my 2011 350sxf do the research before you get it... Lots of problems with clogged injectors and fuel pumps and shit... Mines down at the shop atm hopefully it will be the last of it. Need to put in an aftermarket fuel filter and in tank fuel filter before I ride it again...

Yeah it's so easy to work on. Don't need to fork out heaps of money in labour when I can simply do most of the mechanical stuff myself. Private, was a little dodgy...
Ahh unlucky man. You'd think they would sort those problems out before shipping them out. That's terrible. Hope it's the last for you too

Was quite a learning experience splitting the cases and rebuilding it all. Good fun after I dropped the gearbox shafts on the bench too and watched all the gears and shim washers lose their places on the shafts in slow motion  Now i have to to it all over again with my RGV. 2 stroke is definitely the way to go IMO.  sorry to hear about the FI problems on the 4 banger klutched. My mates has been faultless so far.

My mates has been faultless so far. Yep brothers 85SX (105BB kit) blew a couple of cranks. Bike shop said too much stress from the 105 kit family friend said fuel mixture was out. I split it myself couple expensive mistakes along the way. Cracked the LHS crank case and cracked something else too can't remember what. Got it together and it runs sweet. Hahaha stuff that, I had the springs come out a couple of times but that's it. Yeah.... Should be picking it up from the shop today or tomorrow hopefully... They said around $500  Apparently the choke had snapped of inside the throttle body, so new choke... But the bikes not running so fingers crossed once the choke is in it'll run sweet.

Still don't have bike back..... Part came in on friday and they said it would be back in on Friday arvo... Still haven't heard anything since  EDIT: Got the bike back today finally!  All running good, they just pulled the throttle body apart and gave it a good clean, new spark plug and a couple new o rings and a screw. Not gonna run it until I have the golan's fuel filter put in.
