Looks good mate. What's the overall dimensions? Guessing your 40kg tent is a full camper trailer set up? |

Nice bob job... Can you move the axle forward about 150mm? Will help keep your ball weight down. |

I can't see the point in bobbing, if you then move axle forward. Though 150mm isn't a lot. Departure angle is important with trailers, as they easily drag their asses. Unless you just saving weight. But you definitely need to pack heavier things over the axle. Or consider the positions of any add ons, carriers etc to keep balance. The tent top could happily overhang the rear a bit, if that suits plan. |

Yeah I want to bring the axle forward. It's was just a massive trailer bit over 2000 long. Was dragging ass on the track behind my place. Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. |

I'd leave it where it is, having the axle further back will stop the trailer dragging it's bum like a dog with worms & will give you the effect of having a longer drawbar, making it nicer to reverse etc. The load carrying thing is a valid point... but we're talking suzuki's here, it's not like he's going to be putting a tonne of bricky's sand in it, pack it smart & your drawbar weight will be fine. i don't have any drama's with my bobbed/stumpy trailer, plus it looks rad. |

With the axle position now it will be easy to make the majority of the load go on the tow ball. As others have said, as long as you watch how you pack it and keep the weight over the axle, you'll be fine. Definitely have to do a couple of trips and see how it goes first. |

It was $80 for the weigh bridge certificate. And about the same for a blue slip from the mechanic around the corner. A years rego for a box trailer under 750kg was about $50-$60. That's just from memory, not 100% on the rego cost, but should be pretty close. If you are getting a new vin number and classing it as a home made trailer, the RTA inspector needs to come and see it in person to make sure it's actually homemade and you're not re-birthing a stolen one. Allow at least 2 weeks for the rego process and be prepared to be stuffed around with the whole process. First you need to take your unregistered trailer to your local weigh bridge to get your weigh bridge cert. Then take your unregistered trailer and weigh bridge cert to your mechanic for the blue slip inspection. The mechanic will check the length from trailer hitch to axle and the overall dimensions, then send that info the RTA. Take your unregistered trailer home and wait. The RTA will ring you when their ready to do an inspection and after they've had a look they give you a vin number if they're happy with everything. You have to take your unregistered trailer with the vin number stamped on it back to the mechanic and they'll check the number is correct and give you the blue slip. You take your blue slip and vin number to RTA office, pay your cash and get the number plate. Yep, NSW Gov. sure knows how to fuck you around.... |

Just towed it normally mate. I rang the mechanic and booked in the Blue slip first and they told me where the closest weigh bridge was. I asked the mechanic about towing the unreg'd trailer around, they said because it was booked in for the inspection it was OK as long as you where going from home directly to weigh bridge/mechanic and back home. They said if I get pulled up by the cops to call the mechanic and they would confirm that I was in middle of the rego process (apparently they have had this happen before). You don't need to take the trailer into the RTA, just your blue slip and rego paperwork. |
