You can always go for gearing....

I think gearing is a bit of a pita on a jimny. A ct12 turbo running lowish boost would be good but you have to consider the standard computer and engine condition etc
Its not as easy as bolting on a turbo and driving it.

honestly, a properly designed and tuned turbo kit will cost you well over $5K inc tuning and ECU mods/piggyback/stand alone.

A vitara G16B ( if you have the g13bb motor now) or an M15/16/18 bottom end and head with M16 liana or swift sport manifolds etc ( if you currently have an M13A ) would be a better option, and probably cost you less.

i was thinkin about turbo as i want more power as well. it wont cost 5k, depends what you want to do.

was also considering engine conversions, how hard would it be to put another engine in?

Then you would be better off fitting an Mseries motor. The vit G series motor will be a backwards step for you.

M18a Vvt, unless you don't have Vvt, then a Vvt less M18a out of a Liana, you will need to swap & change a few thing's round to plumb it, but once it is in it would have HEAP'S of power

Blowing up engines is free- It's replacing them that's the problem.

Buying the parts is pretty cheap. All the money is in engine management/tuning. I think there's 5K in turboing a Jimny if anything like stock durability is the requirement.

If you could do everything but dyno time by yourself I reckon $5k is achievable, but I don't know many people that could it. Would be few and far between.

Besides, starting a project like that without a very generous budget ($10-12K) would just be silly. I'm not saying it will cost that much, but if you have only allowed 5 and its gonna cost you 8 and you are half way through the conversion, where do you go from there??? :?

i can do most of the work myself and or get mates to help on the rest so really all i need to pay for is the dyno time.

if i was doing it would only be running about 5-7psi anyway becasue i wouldnt crack the motor (not straight up anyway). i have a safc in my tool box so would use that as well. i dont see the need to go full standalone or get a piggyback for this level of power up. just need a bigger fuel pump and a rising rate fpr and it will be ok.

I have an M16A Swift Sport, and whilst its got a fantastic little motor, I wouldn't put one in an off-road car. It's not got much go until around 3500 or so rpm, great for what it is, but no low-down grunt which you need off road...

Dunno what the other M series motors are like though...

And what are you going to do with the stock timing? Fueling is only half of the equation.

Huh? A dyno run cant change your stock ecu timing :? . It will give you and idea of the AFM's and power output. You said without any stand alones or piggy back units. Rising rate reg will sort out your fuel issues upto a point, but you really need to tweak the timing if you want it to stay alive for a descent amount of time. An N/A timing curve is far more agressive that a forced induction one.

The stock ECU is not very receptive to change. It will only adjust fuel and timing for environmental changes like ambient temp, or altitude ( to a point).

Because of this, you will need at the very leaset a piggyback ECU that can control fuel AND timing.

Rising rate fuel regs and oversized injectors are a crude way to increase fuel supply when not accompanied by some form of engine management upgrade. And when you throw a turbo into the mix you will most likely see some sort of major mechanical failure as a result.

Turbos are cool, but too many people see them as the only solution to their power issues. It takes alot of effort (read: money) to get a turbo system running well on an NA car; and so many people trivialise this.
