Im trying to get my brakes sorted for the rta.
I got a brake test that checks the braking force on each wheel and the passenger rear only had about 18%.
I took the brake cylinder out and 1 side was siezed so I cleaned it up and put some brake lube on it but they still arnt any better. The piston that was seized still dosnt move unless I hold the other brake shoe still.
It dosnt look like there is any brake fluid leaking past the cylinder seals and they are properly bled.
I have a prop valve for the rear line just after the m/c then the single line splits into 2 at the t piece at the diff.
Could it be possible that the magority of the brake fliud is going to the nearest side?

I had another good look at it.
I rebled the rear brakes (both sides) adjusted the shoes out as far as I could before putting the drums back on and it was the same.
There is a small kink in the hard line going to the passenger side but it still bleeds easily.
I jacked up the driver side for a comparison and im positve it locked hard and I couldnt turn the wheel by hand.
So we swapped the drums side to side to see if maybe the kink in the line was causing it or the drum was too worn.
Now both sides can be turned by hand with the brakes on.
Also I opened the brake prop valve completely to eliminate it but its still the same.

i dont know what could be causing it nik, i do have a hilux and also have a ln106 diff sitting around if you need me to look at anything gimme a yell

I think you will find there is no simpler fix then getting a new cylinder... did my bleeder work for you?

I ended up getting a helper so I could see the air coming out to make sure it was all out.
I was suspecting the cylinder but now its doing it both sides Im lost lol!

are your pads set right, is the slave cylinder working?

drums aren't like disc where you just put them in, they need to be tightened or backed off.

What master cylinder are you using. I guess that you have not replace the rear wheel cylinders or shoes. FWIW when i did mine i had to use a HQ proportioning valve (which gives full pressure to the opposite circuit if the other fails) AND an aftermarket adjustable type valve just to get the pressure down low enough to stop the rear brakes locking under heavy braking. If you are using the Hilux master cylinder like myself did you leave the residual pressure valve in the rear line?(it is part of the master cylinder outlet for the rear)

Im runnin subaru 1 1/16" m/c and I have brand new brake shoes. I djusted the shoes out so I could only just get the drums back on.
The rear did lock up first so I put in a wilword prop valve. I had a thought today after all my messing around both the rears wouldnt lock up but they were equal.
I had wound my prop valve off to eliminate it from the puzzle but maybe I went the wrong way
Its raining now but I,ll check later.

is the pedal height ok?

do you have the shoes on the right way around? if they are backwards they dont contact teh drum properly so dont brake a lot at all

pull your handbrake cable off too when you adjsut the brakes

Unadjust the handbrake and remover the drums and machine em and replace the wheel cyl's then adjust the brake shoes throught the adjuster hole in the backing plate then readjust at handbrake lever if this dosent help good luck

I replaced the brake shoes the same as they came off. I did look for pics on the net to shoe hilux rear brakes but couldnt find any.
Im running t/c handbrake so it shouldnt be interfering.
Wont machining the drums make the distance the shoes have to travel even more? Although I was thinking maybe they are too worn? When I swapped them side to side to compare I had to adjust one side in and one side out to swap them, and before this the d/s worked now neither side works. The drums seem ok no deep scratches.
The brake cylinders arnt seized and Im guessing there not leaking internally as I cant see any fluid running out the seals.

Just goes to show that you should always check the basics first..

its only basics if you know lol I never had to do that on zuk diffs and Ive never owned a hilux before.
