can i get to the output shaft bearing (the one that could cause play on the output shaft) without taking the gearbox out, or would i be mad even trying it.

No, because even though it's the rear bearing for the output, it's actually about halfway in the case and clamped between the upper and lower cases and retained by a ring in a groove. The only way to get it out is to separate the upper and lower halves of the case.

anyone know if any of the bearings from a leafy transfer case as the same as that bearing in question in the gearbox ? because i have a set of bearings and i whole transfer.

They are damn close but I couldn't say for sure they are the same.

As I mentioned, this bearing has a ring and groove to retain it. The ID of the bearing is pressed on to the output shaft and the ring retains the bearing (and therefore the shaft) in place. Without the ring locking into the groove on the bearing, the whole bearing and shaft float right on out the back of the box. You could use an ordinary bearing (I think it's either a 6206 or 6306), but it MUST have the groove. Ask CBC for the actual bearing number, they will likely have on in stock on the shelf.

But why are you only replacing one bearing in the box? Why not do 'em all?

there is a bearing with a retaining ring like that in the transfer case. thats why i was asking if they where by chance the same size.

i don't have an income and i am trying to hunt down a vibration, the only place i can see it coming from now is the output shaft.. so if i had a bearing i was just going to swap it out and see how i go.
