Is the idle controller the same on all the 16v engines?

I am guessing it is a pulse width modulated valve, not a stepper motor type?

mine is a PWM valve

I dont believe it controls cold start idle up though and seems to do bugger all the rest of the time if you dont have AC

Mine runs fast idle until it warms up, I don't have AC

its mechanical, looks like there is another port with another coolant controled waxstat opening and closing it, like a carby

I can unplug my solenoid and it still idles fast cold
