Can someone please tell me if I'm on right track. I want a easy kill switch fitted to a car. The way I think is works is:

Pos from coil to switch, and switch to earth. Am I correct? I don't want to play until I am sure. It's for Casper so no major electronics to worry about. Thanks

is it to stop it from being stolen or kill the engine in case of an accedent roll over etc..

Stop from (well slow down anyway) being stolen.

then any one who is going to steel it would know that a wire from battery to positive side of coil and a screw driver across starter will start a car if you have an electric fuel pump i'd cut power to that or in my monaro i have a high tensile chain bolted then welded to the floor with a high tensile padlock to go around steering wheel if they cant steer it they cant go far it all rolls up and goes in a zipped up bag attached to floor when not in use.
you could weld a shackle to your gear stick and paddlock it as well

Now Im just a bout clever enough to do this!!!....probably whilst bragging to my mates how clever i am not to get my car stolen...after a nite on the bundy, and leaving Sneaky at the train station............ upon return the next day Id probably;

1. try and drive it, give it a bit more than normal throttle action and 'pop' the cluch a few times thinking ive doen a clutch cable or similar...



1.5 swear a bit.

2. Change a transfer case on spec (in the carpark, in the rain) whilst winging about the quality of crawler gears available nowa days....

2.5 ring my missus and blame her for stuff unrelated to my predicament

3. After refiting the same tcase Id probaly drop the gear box, telling my offsider that I though i hear a strange noise when i negotiated the last woolies carpark ramp..

4.Accidently knock the lever into hi 2 an drive it home.

Jaycar sell an immobiliser with keyless entry for $119 (Cat. LA8970) which is compliant with insurance requirements as it meets Australian standards. Will kill three circuits (eg. EFI, Fuel Pump and Ignition). Not fun to install, (all black wires) but it works well.

Only problem I have had is sometimes the battery in the remote gets dislodged and needs to be opened and refitted. I cleaned all the contacts with Metho, and it seems fine now. Must be sensitive to grease or something.

Just put a switch in line Bruce.

Not to earth or you will blow the fuse

cut power wire to coil. Fit switch in line so that when switch is open no power to coil.

Or if you want to get tricky, use the switch to activate TWO relays. One that will cut power to coil and one that will cut power to starter soleniod.
Hide switch up under dash/in centre console/in seat/etc etc. Or put in middle of dash and mark it as spotlights, or make it turn on maplight as well.. That does actually confuse people.

Don't fit anything that has to be activated every time you start it. MAJOR pain if 4wdriving.

Job done and working.
Bit like jock said. I pulled pos wire from coil off. Fitted new wire from pos side of coil to switch. Then other side of switch to the wire that I pulled off pos side of coil. All works as i want it to. I know you can get all types of other stuff for kill switches etc. Switch is inside car somewhere. So when switch on you can't start the car. Switch off and it starts.

I'll set you up an improvment on your switch, so it starts but keeps stalling all the time, theirf thinks its a POS that wont go and leaves it
