the old girl has been going strong and no issues for 18 months

now i have noticed a noise

when i pull up at a set of lights and roll the last 5 metres i can hear DOONK DOONK DOONK noise coming from the front of the zook that appears to be in time with the speed that i am rolling at. as i go slower the DOONK noises are further apart etc

unsure on what it could be?

Give us an idea of where the noise is coming from. It must be driveline related if it slows down with you

if it is speed related and coming from the front

check brakes and wheel bearings and tyres.

are your free wheeling hubs unlocked??

yeah mine did this for a while. it was only for a little while and it didn't happen everytime i slowed down. does it also shake the car badly or is it just noise?

It's only noise, wheels/bearings/brakes where only done 6 months ago.

As for location it's hard to tell maybe more to the front left but could be in the middle. Only happens when rolling slow etc with clutch in or out of gear I'm lost for an answer as it's no affecting the performance or anything just noise

Do you hear any sounds when accelerating also? could be uni joints...

Firstly make sure your front wheels are not engaged, then if its still making noises the easy way to check the uni joints is to get under the car while its in gear and try rotating the drive shaft and tail shaft back and forth. you should get very little movement, if any. if you get more than a couple mil of movement, the uni joints need replacing, pretty cheap and easy fix, though expect it to take half a day if its your first time.

I just checked hubs free. Put it in gear and moved front shaft and it rotates freely ;( is that possible looks like I better get the new shaft and unis

no screws or anything in the tyres

Lord fury think you might be right

wheni take of or change gears and let clutch out sometimes it clunks in the drive shaft.

and when in gear it rotates freely so im pointing the finger at the shaft and unis being the issue.

only 3 months ago i had a similar issue with the rear shaft unis and i replaced those and for some strange reason i didnt do the front, normally when i do one of something i do the lot such as my right front shit itself but i replaced both.

to test the front shaft you need the hubs locked and in 4wd, low or high doesnt matter i dont think... then try it

cool cheers i was a bit unsure as to how it was freely rotating but that makes sense i will re check when i finish work

do each of those one at a time and you can ascertain which uni is doing the clunking.
Ie. hubs in & 2H - check front uni
hubs out & 4H/L - check rear uni
obviously this will only work on the front shaft though.
IT seems unlikely though that it will be either of these if it was doing it while the hubs were out and the transfer in 2h because the front prop shaft should be stationary in this situation, no matter how fast you are going.

I would check your brakes and bearings anyway even if they are only 6 months old. Its not unheard of for new parts to fail prematurely and for mechanics/diy'ers to stuff up an install and make stuff wear out real fast.
