OK well, time to keep the ball rolling..

I'm too poor to go ahead with diff locks, So the standard diff has found it's way into the steel carrier.

Almost ready to be installed on the weekend.

The R&P from the alloy carrier should be in the steel carrier.. which is what I asked for.. They should be the same right?

yeah i was wondering why they would put the GV pinion into the alloy housing

no the ring and pinion are not the same. the one from your vitara will be a 5.12 where as the one from the GV is a 4.3. Count the teeth on the ring that is left over. my count is 43 which would make that the GV ring.

I think so, but yours has a bracket with a bush on it as well, not sure if that's just been taken off this one or it din't have it. Gus id say something about that in the FS thread. Sorry bout the hijack here buzzy, joe's about to do the same thing so just trying to sort everything out beforehand.

P.S. That photo of when you pulled apart your alloy one cracks me up every time. Do a little bit of mudbogging?

Just went and had a look - short answer is no. it has a stumpy bit but it's not rounded and has no holes. good or bad?

splines? do you mean teeth on the pinion, i think there should be a different number of teeth on the 2 different pinions.

Yep it's all good !!

Just that the guy that was doing it started to put the GV pinion into the alloy carrier, then was told not to worry about it

So yeah, Good job. I'll glue it all together tonight and get it ready to be put in tommorow arvo after work. I'll have to replace the CV boots while it's all out.

I've gasket goo'd it together and left it to set, I'll torque it to FT before it go's back into the Vit tommorow.

Yeah true, one less thing to worry about. Now I just have to worry about breaking CV's

It took me about 9 hours to do but Ok all done.. FINALLY !!

The main things that held up progress was that the drivers side Calmini diff drop needed a little chopping so the CV could rotate without hitting it. A few bolt lining up issues, It was tricky to hold the diff up with one arm while the other finds the thread. I had to change a CV boot for the first time. and because it had been sitting there for a few weeks it was a bit hard to start, Especially with a flat battery.

But I took it for a test drive "offroad". It definitly needs a wheel alignment but it all works !! No more diahorea diff

The garage is a mess, and it's too late to park it in there to check for leaks. but I'm sure all is ok. I'll check it in the morning.

Oh and a bit of grease fixed a loud annoying sqeek in the rear end.
