ok the dealo is i got a 91 suzuki i jst posted a photo in rigs of auszookers now my question is ?? atm if u looked at the photo well its got a fiber glass canopy and roof on it and i dont like it cos 1 it looks crap and 2nd reasion it rattles like hell .... i been doing a bit of research and found photos of peoples suzuki's that the made into a ute ...i was thinking of doing this but im not sure if i will be able to do a good job off it my problem is money what is cheaper a new canopy for one and il make custom draws for it ..or taking it off and making it a ute ..

Gday, went an had a look at ya pic, nice looking rig.

The canopy, id keep, remember, its a sierra, and things like, quiet, power, speed, no rattles etc all ran away when sierras were invented.

The canopy is worth a bit of a play with from the pic, looks to be in good condition, rare as.

all the internet grumpies will get upset with you for wanting to chop the back off and talk about percentages of uglyness, but hey sierras are ugly cars anyway so removing half of it can't be a bad thing?

But it's usually best to try and keep the car as standard as possible in the long run.

buy a soft top aswell, i own a firbe glass top, full soft top and a bikin top. love it. check MU canvas they do cheap and fairly good quality tops of all sorts

I don't think tryhard ever implied he was going to ruin (oh, I meant chop) his, only remove the fibreglass hardtop and maybe make a bulkhead/cab back.

Ideally, you want a Maruti cab back, and make your own bulkhead.

This car is a factory SWB ute (yes, really)



and here's the (rusty when purchased) factory bulkhead:

But the owner still runs the fibreglass ute back for winter. The owner doesn't remove the bulkhead - there's no need.

If you can find a Maruti back, they are the way to go. Otherwise you could always run a MU canvas cab back - they're quite neat. You still need a bulkhead behind the seats, but it's not hard to make one.

PS if you want to chop the back off, I have nothing to add.

Actually I think it is a maruti roof and bulkhead fitted to a swb WT otherwise it would not have clips for the full soft top canopy on the rear quarter panels and the bulkhead would not have been held in by 2 tins of bog

You'll have to trust me on this 2 Stroker, but it came from Japan like this. I had a Maruti cab back. It's made in India. This one is made in Japan. The tub is different. It has a row of factory installed captive nuts across the floor and behind the A pillars to bolt the bulkhead down (and they really are factory installed - original paint over them etc. The B Pillar is different to the WT one- it has no little plastic trims on the sides and is formed differently to clear the hardtop. The windscreen frame has a rubber seal to the hardtop and no provision for the factory press studs. There's a bunch of other things too. when we pulled it apart, there was no evidence anything had ever been pulled apart before. It had had a rubbish respray, but hadn't been stripped.

The bulkhead is different to the Maruti bulkhead too.

The rust was from sitting with rubbish in the back for years and rainwater sitting against the bulkhead. THe floor was rust free and all the original factory screws were still in the floor with no bulkhead around them. At some stage it had been bogged up to stop the rain flooding the passenger compartment. There was even 3/4" water pipe thrown in there and bogged over to fill the gaps up.

Trust me, it was a ute from the factory. I've seen a couple of others in vic too. Remember Vic had a different suzuki importer to NSW so we received different product. I have no idea how you went about getting one of these, but it saw it's whole original life as a shopping trolley tug, hence the grab bar on the ute back. 1st and second were trashed in the gearbox and the seats were (are!) rooted. It had a massive tow bar on it too. Had lowish kays too -all done in 1st and 2nd.

It was complianced by suzuki as a 4 seat Super Carry Van. (rofl)

When this car was in my shed, I was also working on another car. It was less than 400 chassis numbers different - built in the same month of the same year. It must have been built the same week at the outside (early 1991). It has a normal WT B pillar, no captive nuts, seatbelt and seat provisions in the floor etc. In every other way it's the same.

Sorry for the diatribe, but I'm 100% convinced this is a factory SWB styleside ute.

Yeah ive seen the same insert on a car up here, they are made to form around the swb rear wheel wells, its probably still around to get photos off

I think QLD and VIC were supplied by suzuki Australia, and only NSW was supplied my Ateco so you may well be right.

Ateco had the weird stuff like WT high roofs, WT LWB's, 1985 1.0 traybacks etc.

could of traveled up here anyway, this was a 91 and I still have the build plate off it

i really dont want to chop into anything the back comes off very easly 4 bolts hold the canopy on ...from what i just read u can get a bulk head for it like the white suzuki in photo idealy thats what i want ...but not sure how much it will cost ..does anyone have anylinks to such thing ...thxs in advance
