How do you do this? Mine's getting a bit creaky.

Remove the cable.
Hang it from clothes line or similar.
Spray or squirt lube between cable and sheath about every 15 minutes until lube is coming out the bottom.
Leave another 30 minutes or so then wipe down and refit to car.

Motorcycle shops sell little cable oilers but not sure if they'll fit to a car clutch cable.

If it is real bad you may need to replace it. Here is an inner and an outer wall of the cable, if it's an old cable they could be rubbing. This happened to mine, I replace it because it was annoying the he'll out of me

OMG WD-40... May as well as use kero...

If your wanting to clean the cable itself use turps and work it down the cable shroud, and if you wana lube it use Lannox PTFE when its completely dry.

You will notice the difference, this is after all the years in the game with high end mountain bikes and roadie shifters... They have to be "perfect' or else...

Well, in "all the years" that I have been playing cars, WD40 has always done the job for me...

For my mtb, I just replace the inners...and occassionally the outers.

if you are going to the hassle of removing it i would just replace it.

$30 for a new one :wink:
