if you really must you can get strip LED's that will screw on.
why would you get rid of the bumper?

look in my build up there a simple drill hole in the door but remember they are not legal as they are on a swinging panel so if you weld your door shut your fine if not look out

I think you would be hard pressed to get nailed for them on the tailgate if they were visable from about 45 deg side angles, set towards the outer edges and were ADR approved lights with refectors inc.
your more likley to get done for tyres, mudflaps, numberplate light

More pics in my buildup and how i have done it..I have never seen this done before on another sierra. Except for led strip lights.
It can be enginneered with lights in tailgate. Minimum is 400mm apart. as per NSW RTA documents. Can't find atm..
Mine is unengineered. been fined twice.(speeding) Never defected..

I'm pretty sure your tail light arrangement is not legal. All lights must be clearly visable from 15deg either side of the vehicle....or something like that.

Yer, I can see the passenger side light, & I think that over 15deg.

My LED's off ebay. Just gotta watch I dont reverse into something because they stick out. Recessing them into the tailgate would be a better idea but I couldnt be bothered
