How much diff oil volume do you loose, we drive for hours to and from. Never seen any one hung up on the diff centre..

I spend a massive amount of time dragging diff centers and gouging 1/2 an inch of clay out of the track centers and thats on 34's. shaved diffs will be one of my next mods for sure.
The problem is no where near as bad on NT diffs as the vehicle doesn't drop right into the rut (usually )

2stroker has an interesting point though - has anyone measured the extra heat in the diff center by not having as much oil in there? Is there any difference?

Yeah alien, if someone suggested that you run less oil in your diffs you would think they are crazy.

Tracks must be a lot different down south to be dragging diffs everywhere on 34's is bizzare large 4x4's would have to be on 37's to get the same diff clearance as a suzuki of 34's

thanks steve yeah i did notice the double cardinal and thought this would of been your reason.Do you reckon much is gained rolling it round like that?

there would be a heat differance, fo sho. Oil normaly removes/ has 40% trannsfered to it? would it be a dangerous amount of heat. probably. you could just put the factory amount of oil in through the breather.

then you would run the risk of seals leaking??

Who said anything about running less oil in the diffs? I lift the fill point and there's no significant reduction in oil capacity. I've highway cruised for a few hours on my rear. Sure it gets hot. I have no idea if it's hotter than an unshaved diff. The real issue is if it gets hot enough to burn up seals or burns the oil. There's no evidence that's the case for my diff.

2Stroker - too right the big cars need to be on 37's - we were out with a patrol running 37's the other day and he was struggling with clearance.

A track we were on a few months ago was just drivable with a patrol on 35-36's. We were there a couple of weeks ago and we were struggling to drive it with 35's on sierra diffs. Big cars would have no chance. They'd be pulling cable. Ajsr speaks the truth. It's all about diff clearance down here. I have no paint at all on the underside of my axles (not just the diff centre)

If you can't see the point, it's not the mod for you.
