I need some ideas for a a track bar for my brothers lwb and my ute.

The lwb can wreck rear springs easily the way it is set up, spring under 2" ome rears all round, 2" shackles, wt diffs on nt spacing, vit 1.6, 33" silverstones, 6.5s and a welded rear centre.

My ute is slowly coming together, it will be spoa on lux / bundy diffs with a bit of a wb stretch.

I was thinking of using bundera radial arms, they are around 900mm long and would use a pin type mount. Any ideas?

I'm keen to do this too as mine can destroy new springs at the stab of a throttle...
I've thought about it a bit and the Range Rover setup looks the goods... Basically the same as Vitara rear.

There is more photo's in his build. pretty much all we did was a bit of heavy wall pipe, bent over the back of the axle, tucked it in to clear tank, and stuck a shackle on the other end. dead simple because he had most the parts from previous track bars so i could just use the bushes and old pipe that fitted.

Mine's done using drag style ones... they work brilliantly and i'm yet to get hung up on them:





Since those pics (taken not long after fitting) i've chopped the bottom mount hole off on the front shackle as well.

alien I bet they work great but they look loke a perfect rut anchor to me.

haha nar - like i said, not an issue... dont forget - these take up less real estate than a leaf spring in SPUA configuration, and theyre thin and smooth unlike a leaf spring.

Not only that - they simply will not bind up or tear off their mounts which is a big plus.

Alien's Caltrac style bars are undoubtedly the best solution for a non-binding track bar, but despite his claims, they might work fine in Perth, but they would suck the big one in vic.

The key thing is, they don't have to run that way - they could run on top of the axle and face backwards and still work just as well AFAIK.

The geometry of track bars is very complex and many fail, bend springs, or rip out of the axle.

The "Sam's offroad" style bar (with a shackle at the chassis end) is reasonably effective, but it's still a challenge to make a very short bar (SWB sierra) work in a reasonable range of motion, and not put excessive preload into the springs.

steves right - that and clearance above the diff is a HUGE issue. bump stops etc would need to be addressed. maybe not so hard on a SPUA with tall leaves, but near on impossible SPOA.

still - i'd love to see someone build one, cos i aint seen it done yet!
