G'day

I had a leak from sump and done it last time I did oil change. previous owner damaged thread in one of the holes in the block, of course that closest to the gearbox, hence worst to tap it again. I noticed it too late, when I applied silicon, reinstall sump and tried to fasten that bloody last bolt. she started to leak slightly after that, but after my last off road trip it become a lot worse. She's due to oil change anyway so I look into redoing the sump again.
Does anyone know what kind of tap should I use. sure it must be bigger than standard. I think it is M8 or M6, but not sure. should I re-drill the hole in the block first or just use slightly bigger tap, maybe imperial, or maybe course instead of fine one?
when I apply silicon on the sump should I go around the holes or it is enough on one side (outside or inside) of the sump holes. I have 1.6 vit engine in my sierra

cost about 45 bills and you just drill it larger cut a new thread in it and wind a new thread back into it.

best if you google it cause then you will understand better than what I can explain

hang on your 'sump' was leaking near the back so you stuck a new gasket in with goo but a bolt was mashed and it stil lleaks near the back

reckon youll find the rear main is leaking not the sump, fresh silicone you could skip every 2nd bolt and it wouldnt leak

rear main shouldn't leak, I replaced it not so long ago, and old rear main wasn't leaking either before replacing. I used only silicon as a gasket and straight after I done the sump it start to sweat oil, than slightly leak from that spot where the bad bolt is. I don't know maybe I did something wrong when applying silicon to the sump, maybe not enough of it or something ( I did apply it around the holes in the sump though) I fastened all the bolts with the torque wrench, to prevent breaking the bolts or damaging the thread.

did you clean the surfaces and let it set before running the engine? the sump gasket isnt normally submerged so shouldnt leak if the engine isnt running

yes I cleaned it thoroughly and let it set for one day before driving, that's why I don't know what I could stuff up, maybe it took me too long to fit it and silicon was to dry? I will try to find out for sure if it's sump or rear main, but it looks like a sump for me. I used some blue silicon for sumps, I think some US brand.
Rear main was rather easy to fit. I can't remember what I did, but do you get a bit of engine oil on the seal before fitting it, like you do with oil filter?

sound's like the silicone was going off when you fitted it.
Was it Ultra blue??

I start to think that silicon was to dry, can't figure it out what else could it be. It was blue, nice, rather light blue colour, I think permatex or something like that, it was bloody hard to squeeze it from the tube, so it looks like it took me too long. another lesson learn
