Someone mentioned Shrockworks sliders, so I had a bit of a gander here[

They look nice, but I noticed that they are boltd to the body AND to the chassis. Now granted the body doesn't really move around on the chassis that much, but my train of thought leads me to either bolting them to the body OR the chassis, not both.

Thoughts?

i've seen them also. could be ok but could also lead to fatigue cracks in the body, and we all know what sooks are like standard with cracking. much rather go just off the chassis.

What about bolting them to the body? Or welding it even.

hehe, im in the exact same boat. I like that style but am having issues with mounting...

cut the sills out and put some box there. Makes it look pretty stock and you don't lose clearence. I have done that with mine and they cop a flogging and never any damage.

Bolting or even welding sliders to the body would be a waste of time.

I would have gone the same way as steve if my sills were rusted any more. The sliders I am getting made up are tube with a U shaped flat plate mount at the back around the chassis and plate front mount on the body mount.

That'd save me fixing the rust on the driver's side sill.

What size box did you use Steve?

Reckon if you welded a tube step off the side it would add too much leverage if it got hung up on a rock or something?

Don't suppose you've tested these yet Steve? I was thinking of doing the same thing (though not angled) but thought that the sheet steel where it was welded would fold when hit.

yeah they've had plenty of use. You saw the stuff we were doing at Rover Park, and have done lots of bashing and scrapping over rocks. I welded the top side all the way along, and the bottom side is braced on to the underbody cross supports. It's pretty solid.

Ah ok, the paint was all flash in that pic. I thought that must have been taken after the recent build. Yeah it definitely copped a flogging down at rover

Hey Steve, have you got any pics of how you cleaned it up around the footwell? In that first pic there is a big gap there, is the footwell left exposed?

Hybrid, i did this when i was putting the car together, two years ago.

Damo, yeah i cut a fair bit out.... wasn't really necessary though, i got a bit carried away. You don't need to cut the floor out. I though it'd create more clearence but once the box is there it didn't make a difference. I just put some 1.8 body panel sheet there to fill the space in.

i have done those sliders, they look similar like Shrockworks sliders, but are mounted only to the body. i don't have high lift jack but if i had I wouldn't hesitate to use sliders as a lift surface. design could be beefed up by welding a piece to both ends of the sliders and another piece bolted to spring mounts on the chassis and connect them together with the bolt and rubber bush, like body mounts so it could flex, but also be strong. here's the link:
