Yesterday while playing in mud I damaged my front number plate. It folded around my bar which isn't much of an issue because i can beat it flat but it also took some of the paint of one of the numbers. What can I do to fix it? I believe that you are not allowed to paint it yourself which means that I have to get a new plate. Can you get the same numbers without going personal plates? Or can you just get a slimline plate made to match your original plates?

It sounds like you need new plates - damaged plates are illegal, although on one of my Sierras the plates are dented, folded, have paint coming off and have holes in the top of them from being pulled through the bolts!

Go to QLD Transport. They can give you new number plates on the spot for about $30 from memory (but that will be different numbers), or I think it is about $100 to special order new plates with your existing rego number.

you can either walk in with your current plates and get new ones of a different number over the counter or order a replacement of the same number and it gets sent to you, costs more though, I think you could order a slimline as well

checked into slimlines the other day and you cannot get them unless you get personalised plates.

also have been told you can "buy" you current plates for around $100 which effectivly makes them personalised and you can get replacments of the same numbers.

Possible side benefit of new plates is that on casual inspection (like driving past) a cop is probably less likely to check on a neat modified Sierra with new plates compared to the same car with old plates. It might be taken to indicate that you've recently gone over the pits and registered the car. Then again, it might not.
