Hey guys,
Ive just finished putting a g16b into my sierra and hav a few conserning questions. First off i havent got the tacho working yet but im guessing at about 2000 rpm there is rather loud rattle coming from the engine, if i rev it lower or higher than this particuler rpm then it doesnt make the noise.
Also wen i took it for a drive (i never drove it with the 1.3l so i dont know wat sort of power im expecting) it seems to go fine up to about 70kph (4th gear) but then it struggles to 80kph and then basically doesnt go anywhere at all!
Now when i bought the motor it had a peice of rag as an air filter!!! Probably a really stupid decision to get it now that i think about it because there is dust arround the intake to the engine.
I put this all together and figure the inside of the motor is fukd and worn and it needs a full bore and rebuild, but i want to ask u all wat there 1.6l sierras pull off and if they have any ideas as to if it could be something else that cause this serious lak off power? (it has brand new oil and plugs)
Any help would be great because i havent spent sh*tloads of money on it to have it performing like a pushbike!!

swap it out for a 1 litre.
has the timing been set? has it been tuned properly?
have you done a compression test?

can you record the rattle sound? even do a vid and put it on youtube... could be many things.
as for the 1.6's power... you havent said your tyre size and if its geared or not - but i've had 1/6 carby and efi in mine on 31s with 5.14tcase and carby pulled hard to 80, then crept more or less to around 120 (never pushed it further)... efi pulls hard to around 90 and is steady to 120.
dont forget a sierra has the aerodynamics of a loaf of bread too. If you can, find a stock sierra and take it for a spin (go to a car yard maybe?). then youll have a comparison point at least.

I've had my 1.6 EFI sierra ute to a GPS verified 145, and only slowed down cos I had massive driveshaft vibrations.
There is something amiss.

hey man, i was told by my mate that the engine was running perfect before the vitara was crashed. As a result of the crash the air filter box poped off and a rag was put in there just to stop dirt getting in whilst the car sat. I'm no guru with these engines but i cant see it being something majorly wrong.

Alex and I both have 1.6 EFI's. We both have 6.5 transfer gears.
Alex has 31's with 3.7's.. I have 32's with 3.9's.
We were dead even up to 105-110 on dirt in about 350 metres.

Cheers for response fellas,
It's 16valve efi, stock tyres and gears.
I havent yet done any test's yet (timing, compression ect), i had intentions of getting a full sports exaust system on it and then getting it proffensionally tuned, but now i want make sure that that wont be a waste. . . .
I can easily push it arround so theres no brakes on.
Ill look into connecting the tacho up but i cut all the dash wires off the loom out of the vitara
Hooki. . . .
It's good to no that it wasnt running with a rag as a filter then, cheers.
Ill try to do as alien said and get a youtube video up.
Cheers again.
