Can any one tell me if machining down the locating ridge on the back face of a stub axle will cause it to be weakened,

basically in this pic the diameter is around 90mm and i need it to be 70mm

they are hardened so it will be "fun" to lathe it down but i just want to make sure that the strength will still be where it needs to be.

& your going to get it case hardened again, can't you find somting more suited??

Or have it made??

you would be lucky to get 100km out of it if you didn't..

yeah, either that or i cut some adapter plates, but they will only be mild steel any way

im not even sure that that part of the stub will matter if its weaker
