These pics are from another forum. I consider this an utterly criminal thing to do to an LJ, so I won't link to that forum, but like a lot of criminal things, it's good to watch!

This bloke has found an LJ20 hardtop and is putting Toyota Lux axles under it, and powering it with a Toy 22R engine. Rather than keeping the springs inboard and having lots of flex, he has widened the front rails to keep the stock Toyo steering and suspension. Look on in fear and awe:













Stock wheelbase is 76", now 90":

As far as Crims go, this guy is good. Have a look at the welding work to join the widened rails to the original chassis:

I'm not a fan of the gussets on the chassis/widened chassis job.
But he can weld way better than me.

Yeah, LHD is a clue. It'd be fun to drive. Look how clean and straight the interior is, this could have been an easy resto. I think it's actually better he's used a whole Eng/Box/Tcase from a Toyo (hence the need to stretch the wheelbase), cause the engine would have shredded the very small LJ20 T/Case.

i would of thought cutting down a lux chassis and remaking the body mounts would of been easier?

Not my choice of motor or driveline but good on him

Just to clear this up; I am not having a go at 303zuke! (sort of has been pointed out to me, It may have seemed like I was). Sorry if the above post comes across that way. 303zuke posts more quality posts here than most people ever will!
I just saw that picture, had a random flash back to the post linked, and wanted to raise the point again that I believe 2cyl LJ's do have narrower spring spacing than LJ50's.

Ooh! I think you may have a point, the bush mounts definately look to be directly under the chassis, maybe a little inward?? The reason I said in the other post that LJ10,20 and 50 have the same spring spacing, I had a an LJ20 many moons ago and busted a diff centre. Replacements were impossible to find (5.667 ratio, smaller than an LJ50/80 centre), so I swapped in whole LJ50 front and rear axles and the housings bolted straight onto the LJ20 springs. The spacing was identical.

I don't know why that chassis in the pic appears to have narrower spacing (and LJ10.com postings), maybe it is an overseas market spec thing, or early/late specs?? The only LJ20 I have been able to study up close (mine!) had the same as an LJ50.

Early/late thing would not surprise me, Suzuki are good at this.
