After a giving the Zook a rather good flogging in the mud, she won't idle.
ie. when the engine warms up and the auto choke turns off, it dies if I don't keep the revs up.

I've done quite a bit of reading and have narrowed it down to:
Vacuum hoses
Fuel solenoid
Blocked idle jet

I checked the vacuum hoses and noticed one had a hole in it. It is the one that leads from the front around to the drivers side and has a little canister with a green top on it. I swapped the hose with one that wasn't being used, but forgot which way up the canister goes . The hose put back on without the canister seemed to make no difference to the idling anyway.

I'm also unsure of a pipe coming off the fuel pump. It is real dirty so obviously hasn't been hooked up to anything for a while, but it isn't shown in my manual.

Fuel pump is strange, not sure if its a drain or not, cant be areturn or else fuel would spew out
the vacuum hose turns the choke off under load, wont be it

I blame idle solenoid or crap int eh same area

The pipe on the fuel pump is nothing. Mine has it too, didn't on the original but the aftermarket replacement one did. It is blocked off though.

Thanks guys, I'll give the carby a good clean tomorrow and see what happens.

Well I picked up a carby kit on Friday and have since stripped and rebuilt it.
But it's still doing the same thing.
I cleaned everything out, but the primary jet is sort of spluttering on idle. Will the jets need to be replaced too?


Edit: Went for a run down the shops (with the Zook running like shit) hoping to maybe blow out any excess crap that I may have missed. Got home and had a look, and noticed one of the vacuum hoses wasn't connected.
Hooked it up and now she runs real sweet.

How does this new needle look to you guys?
The old one is on the left, new one on the right. Notice how the recess for the clip to sit in is higher up on the new one. I was running the new one last week with the little o-ring in it to reduce the height of the clip. The zook is using heaps more fuel than usual and I reckon this is the reason.
Should I just put the clip on the new one and adjust the float level to suit?

you have to set the float level every time you open up a carby. the setting is in your last pic to get it pretty close.

to fix idle or carby issues:

1. swap carby for another one you have laying around

if that doesn work

2. swap motors for another one you have laying around

and if that doesnt work put original engine back in and get a 4K corolla carb and all ya probs will be solved.

Well, I re-arranged the new needle and adjusted the float level.
She's now running better than ever!
