Ok. To be honest i don't know much about engines, but what i do know, is that i had exactly the same problem with mine after we just rebuilt it and put it back together.
Retard ignition she would idle very very roughly
to cut a very very long story short, have a look at the Lobe's on the camshaft. one of the rocker arms has to be "On the rock" i can't tell you exactly which one. because i simply don't know.
On my Camshaft the timing mark, does not correlate to the Timing mark on the head. it took about 2 weeks worth of mucking around getting injectors cleaned and tested etc. to figure this out
Im sure someone on here will be able to fill in the blanks for my inadequacy.

losfer wrote: ohh yeah one more thing , check the air flow meter , if you have the FSM check the voltages in and out , ground circuits etc , the only time ive had weird shit happen .. eg engine wont run , engine wont rev past certain rpm , engine backfires , engine fouls 2 plugs only (on a GV) , and a miriad of other weird issues , it was the air flow meter .
did a timing belt on something once and forgot to plug the air flow meter back in... (was also the first time i had done one so i was a little nervous)
started it up. ran like a dream. so i put all my tools away while it warmed up.
then revved it and it just didn't want to rev... had me shitting my pants for about 10 mins... how could it idle so smooth but not rev...
then i found the plug had not been put back in for the air flow.....
silly me =]
sorry this isn't any help

thats why im thinking i should be looking at the "i" mark on the cam gear.
im at a loss as to why suzuki couldnt just make a single slot, reusing parts over a couple of different models, whether it be engine or car models, always causes problems like this.
i even went out and bought a haynes manual but it doesnt specify jack shit about which slot to use.

the haynes manual is a piece of garbage that wouldn't even be worth burning from The smell that would come from the CRAP that is in it.
this question needs to be answered. What Arm should be On the Rock if the camshaft is at Top Dead Centre?
im confident you will get your zook to start if this is answered. as the problem you described is EXACTLY what i went though... what year model do you drive by chance?

WOO!
well, i decided to swallow my pride and tear it all down again.
to the guy who said he can get a rad out peice of piss in 5 mins, id love to see that!
however, i tore the whole lot apart, and lo and behold, the cam dowel was on E, however the mark i used to line the whole lot up was the "i" mark!
explains why my timing being set at 10dbtc both on cylinder 1 and 4 didnt work!
she starts and runs like a dream
now to get some new heater hoses (previous owner bypassed the heater), clear the cooling system of all the oily garbage, flush the oil out, refill both, and im driving this weekend

I think the lesson to be learned here is: Never assume something is right.
Assumption is the mother of all fuckups...

the other lesson is Royce is the only one that reads the problem and gives an accurate answer, everyone else jsut reverts to their own previous problems
