so i am thinking if i should body lift or not? im going to be putting in a vit 1.6L carby motor and got a 1L bonnet. i have read around and some people have trouble with it hitting the bonnet so i thought a body lift would be the easy way out. then i can tummy tuck the tcase and im going to make a rear bar and rock sliders so if im going to body lift now would be the time what dose everyone think?

Surely there a way you can lower the engine mounts or sort out the carb hat/air box system to warrant no body lift. What about a 1.3 bonnet/?

I'm looking at the same thing atm but with the 1.3L bonnet.

yup - don't bodylift it just for the sake of an engine... thats a huge change to COG thats completely unnecessary.

Is the engine clearance the only reason for the BL? I would say font do it just for that reason alone. But if you do you can tuck up the T case and gearbox as well as make room for larger tyres.

My 2c's.

If you've got the skill's, patience and time to raise the floor and mount the engine lower. Then I'd head that way.

Body lift does make alot of things alot easier with only a small change in COG and weakness of mounts etc.

I didnt want to bodylift my old seirra for the sake of the engine, i went to the wreckers and found some rubber intake pipe of various vehicles and i cut the bonnet and put a small scoop on to cover it.

i had that problem when i removed BL from my sierra.
well i took grinder made 3 cuts, add some sides and front and made a sort of scoop.
air filter (swaped for sierra one) doesn't hit bonnet any more. whether it looks good or not, is not my concern, but it was cheap and easy to do it.
