Hi, just thinking about an offer atm but the zuk has done 240000ks so i would be looking at a new engine down the track and cause ill be under P plate rules dunno if i can put a vit enging in it so im wondering how much a sierra 1.3 with lower ks and in good nic would go for and if ive got a chance of gettin one. Also with that many ks would i need to be looking at replacing other bits or does it depend on what sort of life its had. sorry if its a bit noob .

The wear all depends on how it's been treated i.e. not thrashed, regular oil/filter changes, what sort of driving its done etc. JUst cause it's got low k's doesn't mean it's in good nick.

From my experience, if a Sierra has 240 000km on the odometer and you don't notice any smoke when you drive it, then it's probably had the motor reconditioned/replaced anyway. As Zukmeister said, the odometer reading means next to stuff all.

Example - I own 2 Zuks. I drove one to work this morning that has nearly 315 000km on the clock - about 175,000km on its current engine. Mechanically it is in pretty good nick. I have another one with 210 000km on the clock and only 45 000km on its engine and it is due for some major work.

I just got an engine for $350 which had unknown km, and is now in my zook and has just started blowing smoke. I'll rebuild my original engine and put that back in after this one gets too shit.

All up it cost me about $500 (if you factor in the engine and all the oil + gaskets + coolant e.t.c) for the engine swap.

Mine had 280,000 when I bought it - no smoke at all but did notice a drip of fresh radiator fluid on the bumper (ie he'd filled it up just before I arrived). Sure enough blew the head gasket at 295,000km so did a full rebuild - but rings etc were all still fine and had good compression, so could have got away with just a head gasket.

Owner lived about 100km from his work though so it didn't do a lot of idling or cold starts.

BTW I'd recommend buying another second hander or upgrading to a 1.6L if you do anything. Don't rebuild your current one. I spent about $2k on mine by the time I was finished (new everything, head skimmed, new clutch, flywheel machined, carby rebuild, etc) and while it runs great I now regret not putting that money into rebuilding a 1.6.....

Holy crap, this is why I'm so hesitant to get my carby done... In the end you still have a carby motor. Not that their is anything wrong with that but it would be nice to have efi!
