Hi guys.

Sorry for the 101 threads, but i was looking at doing the shocks on my sierra and i must say i haven't really paid attention to the leafs until today. Anyway this is what i found.

PS its an 83 sj40/410 hardtop

I was only intending to replace the shocks with stock replacements as this zook normally only sees the road and the beach/soft sand, very small dunes.

So considering i'm happy to stay stock height, what are my best/cheapest options for shocks/suspension. I also think my bushes on the leaf eyes are in need of attention too so any help there too would be great

Bushes can be had off eBay for around $70 I think, that's for a full kit for both ends of leafs and shackles.

Rears don't look too bad to me, but the fronts look very flat and even bending the wrong way, some people might pipe up with their stock ones from when they upgraded

fronts are starting to invert so just about stuffed and rears are pretty flat and will need replacing soon. try bruce on this forum for your bushes.

can be re-set, but nothing like a new set, may as well lift at the same time..

the rears would be riding really nice right now and you'd be getting some good droop out of them, but the fronts are stuffed =)

Thats how the fronts are.....from factory. They are not stuffed.

Yep, drain plug! If anyone has spotted the diff filler cap and has suggestions on how to get a completely rounded one that is as tight as f@$k out feel free to add them.

Aaaaargh was nearly convinced they were knackered before the last post.

some times can use an impact driver, or u have to weld something to it to act like a lever,

Heat it up, then hold an ice cube on the head of the plug, get some nut fuckers (vice grips) on it and go for it.

Yea i have a small piece of high tensile allen key that i wanted to get welded into it. Thing is im not that good with a welder. I can solder copper to copper or to brass great but never learnt how to properly use a welder. With the threads so close to the diff housing i'd need to put it in the hands of someone capable. I have a spare cap here waiting to replace it but i haven't been able to get the dam thing out.

Tried heat and grips but this thing is in VERY tight. Needs something to grab solid

Will shatter as soon as you put weight on it, best option is a hammer & chisel, if that doesn't work, weld a bolt in it, the heat will loosen it & the bolt becomes something to swing a spanner off....

Rears look fine. Fronts i would add leaf for the 3rd leaf down if your really worried.

I'm also looking for standard height springs.

I don't want any extra height, but I do want flex

if there is 40-45mm between the bumpstop and the diff they are fine.
