'Bouncing' doesnt always help either, as you tend to bounce off the line you have chosen and often onto a shittier line.

Exactly.

Autos are much easier to play with right at the balance point- by left foot braking you can preload the suspension to get the car into the worst possible angle with the wheels stationary, then by backing off the brake the car actually "relaxes" as it moves, reducing the angle and making pretty crazy lines driveable.

With a manual, the car always winds up as it moves off, which contributes to the instability.

"Coughing" from the carby stumbling can be enough to send a car over too.

"Hopping" is another big problem on climbs where you have to stay on the power. It's one of the reasons I'm such a fan of my radius arm/coil setup - it NEVER hops. Between that, 120:1 gearing and a line locker, I can drive my car onto its side on every trip with the best of them :D

Steve, I have never asked before, but do you have a build thread somewhere?

I haven't run across it yet if you do,although I have seen a few pics of your setup somewhere.

thats at the repeater tower at glasshouse we go up there all the time there really is only one line for suzukis it is a bit to the right of where you are (looking from the drivers seat). i have seen my mate crawl his 75 series shorty with a locked front up the middle lifted front wheel pretty high. were you where old mate is standing on the ledge. that middle line pretty unforgiving especially with a little speed. the only car that i would drive up that hill fast in is a subaru (cause you don't have a choice)

If that's where I think it is, when I was up there a month or so ago, I drove my LJ80 up where he is... There are probably about 14 plausible lines up there :?
