hey guys just after some info on an engine swap, i have a 94 vitara with the injected g16b wich is dead i will be rebuilding though at a later date. i have found an 01 baleno low km engine for $950 though i have heard i have to tinker with it as its not a straight swap due to the dizzy & i will have to swap the cam over from my current vitara motor? is this engine swap easily done or am i better off getting an earlier motor from another vitara with no doubt higher kms? im not to mechanicly minded & all work will be carried out by a mechanic, thanks in advance for any help & advice

You say your motor is dead. What exactly is 'dead' about it? All you can use from the baleno engine is the bottom end unless yo do the wiring changes etc for the baleno coil-pack motor.

no idea mechanic said its cooked i didnt know the history when i got the car, when it was was wired up it had no comoression its got heaps of what looks like cooked mud/dirt on the pistons carbon scoring etc looks like it was submerged, i was told that an 01 baleno motor could go in by changing my manifolds over, swapping oil pick up and cam, so im guessing this isnt a viable option? which way do you think i should go?

Sounds like there may be nothing salvagable from your current motor.

A baleno of 01 build is a coil pack motor. Your vehicle wiring is not compatable. You would have to change the entire engine harness for the baleno one, and swap the ECU as the baleno runs a few extra sensors, plus the coil packs.

Just get another vit motor. Way easier!

You need to swap all the manifolds to the Vitara ones, cam, sump and pick up and valve cover. You may need to put a core plug in the front of the oil pump if your sump doesn't have the allowance for the crank sensor (it would be around the change year) to stop it leaking oil, but otherwise will fit. Valve adjustment is prob the hardest thing without the correct tool but doable.

But its sounds like his head is toast! I wouldn't ASSUME that the parts he needs to swap the baleno motor in are still usable from the vit motor.

il get pics up of the engine internals tomorrow to show the condition it looks like crud in their however the engine was freely turning over & it wasnt seized, what parts may be damaged that would effect the change over?

It dosnt sound like to much drama for a mechanic to do the cam swap etc, I considered doing it for the fact that its low in kms and a newer engine.

The lowest km vitara engine ive found has been 175,000kms from another 94 model for $1100, With the baleno motor at $950 for a 75,000km motor minus manifolds it dosnt seem to bad..
