hiya guys, im new to this forum because i have just bought myself an 89 sierra, and bought my girlfriend an 83.

i am curious to know what simple mods i can do to get more flex, i use to have an 84 sierra that could mount 2 car ramps on opposite corners, and my new one cant. difference is, the new one has anti sway bars, and my old one had twin lock rite lokkas.

what mods can i do to my suspension to make it work better?

do i remove the anti sway bar?

i am in the process of making my own 2" longer shackles and have ordered 2" body lift of ebay to get more height.

what else is good? what has worked for you??

Yep throw the sway-bars in the bin. Remove the load leaves to get a bit more flex outta the leaves.

Next step would be longer shocks/brakelines and 2" springs

longer shackles won't gain you flex unless you have longer shocks. there are so many tips. get comfy....grab a drink....and search to read all the posts as there is never one simple answer.

simple cheap mods are make sure the bushes are in good nick, well lubed and not to tight

i know theirs no simple fix, and its gonna take work, and money, and i have read a fair bit of the forum. reading the list of modifications and looking @ photos to get ideas. but no one actually says "i made longer shackles and so i needed longer shocks" so i have learnt something new already.

i dont wanna come across as an annoying/needy NOOB.

im not a mechanic, i build computers. but wanna do as much as i can to my car and enjoy it, i wanna have 1 of them zooks that people just go "hey look @ that, cool" and be proud that i did it myself and didnt just pay someone to do it.

so any advice is much appreciated.

thats because most people have longer shocks before they get longer shackles
you don't get much, if any, extra travel using longer shackles with standard springs

longer shocks...preferably on longer custom mounts so you don't have to do too much bumpstop tweaking and maybe some longer springs will always help. but at the end of the day lockers will make the most difference.

haha, not quite. she's excited about it. cant wait to spend some $$ on it & take it off road. she's not scared to give it a go, even in my big pajero.

they are pretty cheap to work on. so no need to check much money at them

1st question is how much work do you want to do on it to get more flex? you can do the ruf (rear springs up front, new 2" springs in the rear) thing with longer shocks, brake lines and bump stops. that will get you a good amount of flex. or get custom longer leafs made up.

as for modification, what ever my bank will allow, & if i can do the work myself & save $ on labour, im all for that.

and as for my girls zook. she wants it big & bright. and if you saw it in its current state, it is far from it.

just do a ruf on both that way you only need to buy one whole set of springs (2 pairs of lifted rears)
its the most cost efective way to get pretty good flex

so you put the standard REAR springs on the FRONT, and get new 2" lifted springs on the back? with longer shocks, brake lines and bump stops all round?

that dont sound 2 hard or expensive

and what is meant by "bumpstop tweaking" do i want to make them shorter so the wheel can travell upwards further?

have a look at the 31's no body lift" its a ruf. cost me about $400 with brake lines, shocks, bushes, bumpstops ext and new old man emu 2" lifted springs.

flexed pretty good and made the car a lot smoother to drive
