Gday guys,

I just purchased an Ironman 35mm lift kit which is yet to be delivered and was wondering If i could also use 30/15mm coil spacers with this kit.

Would it give me any diff/CV drama or make the spring length too long for the shocks?

I dont go that hard off road I just want to make sure I have enough clearance for 215 or 235 tyres that ill be putting on soon.

That would be 65mm lift overall which is going to be stretching the friendship a little with the CVs. Probably better to stick to 50mm overall unless you plan on other mods (dropping the front diff etc).

The shocks should still be fine, as all you will be doing is moving where they sit in their range of travel. Keep in mind you won't get any extra flex/down travel from it though, all you will be doing is making the car sit a little higher.

If you want more down travel on the rear, use a shock mount relocator and extend the rear bump stops (to protect the shocks from bottoming out). You will lose uptravel from doing this, but if you've got bigger boots they will likely be fouling well before the shocks hit maximum compression anyway so its a win-win situation.

Pretty sure 235/75/15 tyres will fit on there with just the 35mm lift though, so if you don't cane it offroad might be best to just stick to that to keep it as reliable as possible.

The shocks in those Ironman kits, are extended shocks, or thats what i was told when i inquired about them for my now gone 89 Vit... will be getting one of those Ironman kits for my GV as soon as i save enough... he he...

I thought about putting spacers on-top of my "soon-to-be" calmini springs but you'd probably be pushing ya CV's to some wicked angles and the springs would most likely become quite stiff.

Might be ok if you wanan throw a bigger set of muddies on for the weekend or something though.

bucket, there is no real need to add spacers to the calmini kit unless you want to build a sky scraper? spacers won't make you springs any "stiffer" but they will get coil bind earlier on compression & they will over extend the struts & CV's on extension.

31's are plenty enough for a vitara, unless you do something about gearing.

I had "thought" about it. I figured I didn't wanna break CVs but the coil bind never occured to me.

I had kinda wanted to do it origionally to run 33s for competing down the line, but 31s will work

Ok so today i went and bought some sunnies and tyres and now i am even more paranoid about the guards rubbing (none of it has arrived or been fitted yet)

i bought 235/75 R5 nankang muddies with quite an aggressive tread

the rear im not worried about so ill be using my 30mm coil spacer's with the ironman lift kit

the front i am worried about the rubbing and the CV's angle...i think i will put in some 10mm spacer's with the ironman kit just to be sure its as high as possible

I know its probably not the smartest bet without lowering the diff but the yanks seem to think anything upto 3" will be 'safe enough' on thier sidekick forums

was very interesting to see that buying the ironman kit on ebay was cheaper than buying it from ironman themselves (including shipping from perth to melbourne)

Yeah the guys on ebay are resellers, they dont have a store as such, so dont have the store charges to add on, so they are cheaper, and usually have free shipping...

So is everything in and on now, if so, how do you find it ?

I run 40mm coils and 15mm spacers in the front of my GV and with the Diff drop brackets my CV angles are fine If not better than most Gv's ive seen with just coil lifts. Now its the struts that actually restrict down travel.

Dudes you guys need to be sending me PMs with your suspension inquiries. I reckon I can match Ironman, or get very close with better quality kits from probably most suppliers. Support a fellow auszooker not some nameless ebay store! In return I'll look after you as best I can! Remember there's no harm in asking!

I've had good success with both EFS and Dobinsons suspension for vitaras. Dobinsons have the longest available strut for the Vitaras, I think EFS springs are more refined when it comes to spring rates. RidePro are also another quality mid range kit.

Hell yeh. I get my stuff through Dank when ever i can. So far he has helped me with the winch, optima battery, and lots of advise. His prices are usually better than if not equal to his competitors. Ive also got a mate that owns a auto parts store and he easily matches the big stores prices.
