hey guys im in the process of doing up a vitara its nearly at registration stage it has a lif and some guard chopping has been done i have put some 31x10.5 r15 tires on a 8 inch rim and flexed it up it dosent seem to hit anywhere just wondering how they would go with the stock gearing
its a 89SWB vitara

yeah it slows the pickup down a fair bit but they still sit on 100 ok enough

31" tyres are fine. As mentioned, you will find the pick up on the lights alittle different. Unlocked front and rear i ran a standard front diff for about 2 years. Was fine. Ive also had someone with welded front never had a problem with his standard diff. But saying that it is easily the weakest point on a standard vit.

Just replace it with a steel one once it breaks.

Couldn't reccomend you a size, as i haven't upsized mine yet. i'm looking at running some 30 x 9.5" R15's i've been told they are a little less strenuous on the Front diff

Alot of the dudes on here run 31's fine, just seen a fair few broken front diffs too

the front diff can break on any size tyre just depends what you drive ie terrain and how you drive

i broke mine on 29 inch tyres on rock just lifted a wheel and it came down not that heavy and bang front diff gone

but as said just go with the tyres you want and upgrade the diff when it goes

By gone you mean shattered What Tombutt said, depends what/how you drive. Do you have a steel housing in the front??

I just found out that my mate on 33 and sc on his swb still runs alloy diff.
He has moded the mounts a bit but.

^^ It's not necessarily the mounts that clap out. Tombutts diff exploded around the pinion. Is your mates a steel diff?? It's the fact the alloy housing is weak as piss and can fracture in a few places

I snapped my third member on standard tyres around the pinion bearing they can last and they can also explode very easily depending on how and what you drive.
Get a steel one if you can find one for a reasonable price if not leave it and keep your fingers crossed

Nup - most of us start looking at transfer gear options, but it's far from impossible on standards. Can mean a fair bit of clutch work if you're manual though.

i was out with him on the weekend and he was crawling fine. i dunno how much clutch he was using and i could hear it was revving alot lower than mine (on 215's) but he was managing it well

instead on starting a new thread, thought i would just go with this one.

trying to put my 31's on, the front is fine except for the steering stops. but the rear im having issue with the bumper flare mount. does anyone have any info on what they did or has mine been bent towards the tire?? (was rear impacted b4 i bought it)

oh and rear bumpstops, is there anyway of doing it besides drilling a hole in the lower spring purch and fitting nut and bolt through block? (atari method)

a small bumpstop extension can be fitted to the top, (ninjamoses style)but for the size that i required it caused the spring to hit the bumpstop during flex.

oh ok, ill have to see what he did. do you think i would need 2" bump stops ext? my coils are only 50mm longer in standing length than std,

oh dw about the bumper thing, got the grinder out and cut the little tab off

NFI, the only way to really find out is to flex it & check it.

yeah tru, oh and i dont know who told you that 5th is uter crap with 31's but honestly its not that bad. i drove 150km today (90kph-110kph), its a little slow but really not that noticable, revs are a bit lower and it doesnt have as much torque up hills but still good to drive non the less.

yeah its not the best but its not bad. i would like to drive a stock vit again to see the difference. i havnt driven a stocky for 2 yrs, that was when mine was stock.

speedo is almost exactly 10% out. 90 is almost bang on 100. 45 being 50.

theres mention in that thread, that a kia front diff bolts straight in, and is steel....has anyone looked into this?

ahaha told you! yeah it cruises really easily and yeah could go more but it was the first biggish drive with the tyres so didnt no how far i could get (fuel consumption wise) so didnt want to push it.
