Hey guys i have an89 swb sierra and everytime i roll down the window i get a strong smell of exhaust. The exhaust is pretty close to the tailgate so i was wondering if its creating some kind of suction? Has anyone else experienced this its getting reall annoying having to drive with the windows up

If you can smell exhaust from the front windows, then I'd bet you have a leaky manifold or weld somewhere close to the engine.

IMO if you had a problem with the placement of the outlet then you'd only notice it with the back open or one of the rear drain bungs out - you'd never notice it with only the front windows open.

how far out the back does the tailpipe exit? if its too close to teh back of the car it gets sucked in the rear, especially bad in soft tops

Though my sierra had a side exhaust and it would fill up with teh window open so check for leaks in general anyway

Mine was really bad when I changed it from side exit to straight out the rear. I changed it back to a side exit and replaced the motor (bit smokey) which seemed to help. Mine was getting sucked in the back window

Slightly off topic: Dad just knocked back a roady on a pretty much a brand new Merc G-wagen because A) it has passenger side exiting exhausts B) the exhaust exits in front of the last open-able window. This is from factory..

It's ADR complient apparently but doesn't meet regulations re:exhausts..... Go figure that one out...

I stick my boot over end of exhaust,
and get somebody with ears to listen for leaks,
or feel carefully for leaks.
Ifr it stalls car, ,probably not leaking,
if still runs could be a leak.
Mine smelled real bad from a minute crack in a weld on the extractors

Yh mines a soft top my exhaust finishes right next to and in line with my shackle i might go have a look for some holes and if that doesnt work ill change the path

That's your problem. It's super common. That's why the stock exhaust finishes right under the extreme corner of the bumper an pointing down.

Dam o well the muffler thats on it now is super gay just gives me anotger reason to change it haha
