Hey guys/girls,

Need to get some new tyres and im looking at the silverstone mt-117 extreme bias ply tyres in a 31", was just looking on the net and saw a set of maxxis trepadors and bfg km2's. ive heard really good things about the km2's but havent heard much about how the smaller trepadors perform on a range of different terrains. has anyone every run them before?, As im looking for a quite aggressive mud/rock tyre cause ive got a second set of tyres to use during the week.

Have the trep's in 31's, love em, but, the bfg km2's are a better all round tyre & will likely be my next set...

Kumho KL71 are better than BFG KM2 (for what i drive anyway).

Fletch I've been running the km2's in 30's for a while now and they really seem to be a descent tire. Put quiet a few k's on them but they're not showing too much wear.

What they like for longevity, being directional thus traditional 4-5wheel rotations are not easily possible

ive heard a few good things about the kl71/s aswell. are the trepadors bias or radial in the 31"? im pretty sold on the km2's at the moment, been watching/reading some reviews of how they perform and its crazy the places people are going.

its not an issue if the vehicle isnt dodgy lol - i just swap front and rear and keep them on the same side of the car. No different to when i had the simex ETs.

I've done as many miles on the KM2 as i have the KL71 and the KM2 are wearing quicker, but only slightly, like 2mm vs 1mm, but its hard to tell.

The tyre shop tried to tell me bias & couldn't be balanced....
I ask why " Radial " was on the side wall, they balanced em...

cheers for the feedback guys, i used to run 31" baja claws (radial) and they were pretty good but just way to exspensive this time around and wanna try something different...

radial treps are good, km2 are great, but bighorns are better.
Ive got a set of all of the above on vehicles at the moment.
bighorns are also by far the best value for money.
and a directional tyre like the kuhmo is designed to work well one way only and thats not really handy when the only way out is back where you came from

AMEN! got bighorns in a 31, awesome so far. cant complain. but they are noisier than the KL71 and KM2.....but who cares

That big blue building in bunno(Discount auto parts?) do 4 31" bighorns on rims (Duno if they do zook pattern rims though) for $1120 and I've been sorta considering that, Bighorns in a 31 just didn't look that aggressive to me though.

ASJR: I've found every directional tyre I've been able to experiment with (basically just on 4 wheelers but hay) has worked quite well when on backwards. They went much better in our sloppy mud with a gravel base, a little better in our bottomless swampy shit mud and at speed were pretty scary. Just food for thought really. I still wana try it on a "proper" 4WD though. I reckon putting them on backwards on sand would go pretty well.

I agree with part of this , I hate MT claws but they work better backwards, go figure.
all my rough terrain cherry pickers run directional muddie atv type tyres and they to work better backwards until they clogg up in mud then they are worse

maxxis bighorn 764 are awesome had them on for a while now and they are good on and off road great bang for buck

hey guys,

thanx for the replies. been looking around at what aggresive muddies are around, i totally forgot about the new good year m/t with kevlar. has anyone ever run these? had them on our 315/75R16 on our work cruiser but it was all for show, never hit the mud at all. im going for a 32x11.5r15 and i can get the kevlars for $320 a tyre fitted. does anyone know of the prices of treps and km2's??

when i looked at comparo between KM2 and MTR, the goodyear were around $20 a tyre more expensive, and from all accounts on comparable terrain to what i drive the KM2 performed better.

Its interesting if you read reviews from the USA though, as the preference for one or the other changes depending on what side of the country they live on! (different terrain).

KL71 are an extremely quiet tyre. Really defy their tread pattern on the hard stuff and have made my previous tyre (Wranger MT/Rs) look like racing slicks..

just thought id let everyone know that i ordered a set of mt-177 xtreme bias ply's today, simply because of the price i got them for (well under $200 per tyre) as i can deal direct with the tyre factory.

hahaha probly get them for $200 a pop for everyone on auszookers. and frieght wouldnt really be a big problem. but there is now only 6 in aus according to their stock list.
