Ive got an 89 sierra with a vitara carby (think its a G16a???)

id love to put a turbo on it but dont really know a whole heap about turbos,
just the very basics.
so just some info about everything i guess haha :/

ive seen a G16a with a liberty turbo in it in a 4wd magazine :/

soooo how much more power would the turbo give?
what would it be like 4wd (not crazy rock crawling, hate rocks -.-)
what would happen if the turbo got a little wet, i heard they crack if hot??


etccc...... any info and opinions with a bit of background info would be appreciated!!!

personaly, unless u have a big diesel engine, you are better off just swapping the carb st up for thr efi job (g16B). not as much power as a turbo but more reliable and a more even power spread across the range. And down the track if your still keen to have a turbo, it will be easier to tune in with the efi setup.

that said, I own a gsx1400 turbo and it is as tame as you could beleive until you twist the throttle hard. so nothing against turbo's if setup correctley, i just don't think it's wise for basic 4wd duties.

Is it the one shifty built?

turbos plus 4wd are awesome, but not in a fully hektik super boost ricer way, but then we have some many options to have 'enough' power offroad available to the wheels its hardly worth it, better spending less money on lockers and gears

Swapping to a G16B (EFI) is likely to give you enough power, and more importantly, much better drivability.

To reliably build a turbo G16 you need to start with EFI in any case, so start off by swapping in an EFI version, then if that's not enough to do what you need once gearing etc is sorted, (and it's likely to be plenty) then you can investigate turboing.

Allow around $6K just for the turbo conversion, and about $3K for the EFI motor swap.

It is possible to do both jobs for less, but based on your apparent lack of experience and the questions you are asking, you are probably going to have to pay for much of the work to be done, which adds to the cost.

Most people don't think it's worth dropping $10K on a car that can't use the power once it's finished.
