I would go bigger personally, probably 70 series as minimum. Increasing tyre size is the most effective way of gaining clearance in these things!

To go 70s I have to drop down a rim size to 16s. Which is possible, but means buying half a dozen wheels (wanting to carry two spares).

I noticed on the Outdoor Auto website, they offer a 35mm lift kit for the GV, which brings it in under the 38mm limit pointed out above. However, it is described as "budget" which translates in my head to "crap". Anyone got any first hand knowledge about these?

The Geolandar is also available in 225/70/17 and 235/65/17, (both the 65 series tyres are H speed rated, while the 70 is T rated, or 190km/h) for increased diameter, but in my mind these are still very much highway tread pattern tyres.

What would be the particular point in buying 6 of these to replace the virtually identical brand new tyres on your leased GV?

Hi Greg, 65 profile is good enough and bigger size tyre does not mean it is better. If the current setup of your GV is capable enough for the trips you currently undertake then leaving it stock could be something worth considering.

If I have the opportunity to undo/redo what modifications I've made to my GV. I would fit a lower set of king springs (20mm) and probably go with a 235/70/16 or 235/65/17 (in your case) A/T tyres to keep it within the legal limit. I would forgo the snorkel and buy a water bra / tarp for deep water crossings. However underbody protection is a must. The set from outdoor autos is proven and affordable but the set available from Ironman is worth investigating as it a full three piece design with a very attracting price tag.

Strange??? They are frigging awesome to drive & reliable as stuff that's reliable!!

But some thing's shouldn't be treated as a 4wd :helloo:

Oh.. http://outdoorauto4x4.com/p/1189066/new ... ecial.html
That's the 50mm but i imagine the kit to be the same., biggest problem I can see with that is you retain your std spring's & rear shock's....

See Mr Nutter, I was nice......

The budget lift from oda is a spacer kit, hence "budget". Best lift is to replace the springs and shocks with taller ones if budget isn't a problem.

Sor to go back to what you want, my suggestions would be -
1. Deluxe bar
2.Well I have el cheapo narvas but whatever you can afford, nothin wrong with narvas
3. Again, I have a warn 8000lb but whatever, you only use a couple of times a year
4. I would get the 40mm dobbinson lift, I have there coils and they are great but if you are getting a bulbar and winch, you will need stronger springs in the front. I have a 3 door with bullbar and winch and it has the 3.2l springs in the front.
5. You will find it hard to fit fit a air compressor under the bonnet, I'm looking at fitting mine were the normal air intake once was before I got a snorkal. So a Portable jobby will be more the go
6. I would look at going 16's for more selection and so you could get into a 75 series tyre, I will be looking at next time the Goodyear wrangler duratrac as I've heard they pretty quite.... Pardon the pun. I have cooper st's and they drown out the roof rack drone haha

My 2 cents, hope it helps

Depends on the manufacturer, the older Hayman Reece towbars did sit seriously low, but this was so that the hitch clears the spare wheel. Later versions of the towbars can be made to sit higher up under the rear bumper, but require a longer hitch and hence are generally load rated lower...

See the pic below for how ours looks, doesn't catch and also provides a handy skid plate for the rear end when dropping into ruts/steps, etc.

(Note that we remove the hitch when wheeling usually, otherwise the drawbar will catch on even small roll-overs, but this is a problem for all NGV's)
