Hi all I have decided to replace all the bushes in my jimny and would like to to know if there is a preference in bush type. It's got 220,000 on the clock and still original rubber. I've had bad experience with poly in my landrovers should I have the same concern with poly on the jimny

Poly generally lasts longer, rubber generally flexes better...generally

I guess it depends. If you are talking about a non-modified vehicle with OEM quality rubber bushes then you may find they will outlast poly.

One advantage of poly is that you can build in castor correction.

I've seen poly bushes flex better than rubber and last a whole heap shorter

As a wise man once said, poly aint poly. Meaning there are different duro's of poly from super soft to rock hard and everything in between. I prefer poly as I have a A1 supplier.

Selling my shackle bushes are on hold at the moment. Had some people complaining that they are too small.
I have sold well over 400 sets and have had 3 people saying that they think they are too small. All complains have been via pm and all have been nice about it as I have been nice with them. (Word of mouth goes a long way on forums so I always try to do the right thing)
I know over 400 sales with only 3 saying that they don't fit is not bad but there is nothing worse than selling something and hoping that they fit correctly.

It's hard to please everyone as spring manufactures are all a little differant. Where the bushes go there can be more than 2mm differance between even the same type of spring manufacture hence why they are too small at times.
I'll be doing one of 2 things.

1/ try to remake a full set of ally bushes which will allow me to make new moulds so they are a little bigger. (then people will say they don't fit cause they are too big. )

2/ stop selling and only sell them to people I have sold too before and know they are ok.

3/ stop caring and do what everyone else in the industry does and call their customer a liar, then tell them to fuck off.

Can't do that Peter. Always happy to work things out if people are not happy.
Pain in bum returning $$$$ but it needs to be done once I get them back and make sure they are still like new.
Of cause there is a time frame within reason

From my experience (had both rubber and nolathane branded bushes in Defender, 80 series and Maverick) is to go with rubber if you want a stock type of ride comfort wise and depending on suspension mods, similar performance when considering comfort, sound insulation and flex to stock when off road (keep in mind that rubber will only flex so far for the most part). RUbber can be a little more tolerant to sand, dirt, water etc when off road compared to poly which usually needs greasing (usually with special grease) to remain supple and stay in good nick. The greasing also reduces noise in the poly stuff.

If you don't mind the ride maybe being a little stiffer, maybe a little more noisy and perhaps not as much insulating to small irregularities in the road, but if looked after can last longer and usually cost less than OEM, then go for poly, but as said, all poly bushes are not made the same so look into the supplier and the product used to make the bushes.

having said all that I now use a combination of OEM rubber and good quality poly bushes around my prado depending on location and what characteristics I want in that location.
I even made my own for a chev blitz ages ago

Thanks mate, That's what I mean, 99% are a good fit but some just won't fit. I guess even if I get new ones made up some won't be happy, it's all to do with the rap on the spring being slighty differant at times.

I'd say poly because they last longer :D the little bit of extra flex you get isn't worth replacing the bushes every few hard weekends you do on the track. IMO

What out the poly ones are not hard or they will bend the arms not the bush

I ran superpro's in my sierra. Old used rubbers lasted longer!

That may just be a case of the wrong duro being used, as Greg mentioned earlier.

I remember when Bruce first started making sierra shackle bushes. He tried a few different duro's. Some were too hard, some were so soft they just tore appart. Point is, that he spent the time and effort getting them right.

Other aftermarket bush manufacturers may just use one duro for all suspension bushes for all makes and models, meaning theat they work well in some vehicles, but not others.....

Who knows

Yeah i know Bruce's are meant to be good and different compounds etc.

Blue Super pro's crushed and ovaled out.

They might be ok for a road car that doesnt stress the bush, in the bush
