spent the morning covered in diff oil and found out drivers side chromo has no circlip holding the axle into the cv
and the aftermarket axle seals i have are shit, replaced drivers side and found the new one jammed against the cv not even seated and went to put another new seal in and i gently pressed it in with my finger WTF ??? normally they are so tight i need a socket and hammer to tap em in.

Q1 will my chromo hold up with no cirlip holding the stubby axle inside the cv (cant really see where it could go)
or will i die if i go wheeling with it like that ?

Q2 Do i just have a batch of shitty cheap axle seals ? (seating surface is like new)

Q3 should i just burn it ?

it still works in 4x4 but if i strain it will it go pop ?

My rule of thumb is always go genuine for seals, any seal I have used that was non genuine has always fucked up and bit me in the ass. I don't think melting it in is going to hold it in, also why don't you just get another cir-clip?

not really sure how i would install it considering it joins 2 splined surfaces together and it resides inside the cv cup

If you had no circlip, surely the axle would just fall out of the CV???

To install it you just put it on the end of the shaft and slide the spline into the CV, compressing the circlip(not really a circlip though, more like a spring wire, detent clip.).

to then remove the CV, you have to hold the axle vertical, with the CV hanging down, then whack the CV with a big hammer, while holding your tongue just right.

I have seen people in GQ's just put a dab of weld on the spline, just before the wear mark on the ends of the axle that go into the centre.
this stops the axles from working there way 'in', and the CV is retained to the hub anyway... Then you can change CV's easily..

Not 100% that this is ok to do to sierras though.

there is no room between the diff and the cv for it to move and from the cv to the hub
there is no movement either. the chromo's are a tight fit

I can't see the circlip being required for it to work .

and yes those seals will leak , nearly for sure.
I had a similar one that only took one drive to piss oil out

By this i meant, that you can easily tell if there is a 'circlip' or not by tugging on the cv and seeing if it comes off the axle... presuming that it was all apart...

Hey MR rocky Had anyluck with those cromo i found mine annoying to do because of the tight fit into diff

Mate i broke a clip on my cromo cv and had to go to a shop in slacks creek to get another one they fitted it and filled it up with moly grease and charged me a hole lot of nothing for it so for what it is worth I would just get it replaced and never think about it again.

yeah there a pain to fit the first time reckon it will be alot quicker if i have to do it again
went fine offroad today but i will get it replaced before next time out

The CV circlip broke when we put the axle in, I contacted Seam from Lowrange to buy the exact same one and he didnt help much saying he couldnt do it etc.
Went to a heap of bearing shops and none had the corect ones.
Im going to go try a mob called "circlip australia" as see if they can help.
Id rather have it together and correct but as said if if not moving around and causing damage then its prob ok.

I broke a circlip pulling the CV's apart for a look when we put the CrMo's in trolley Tug. Stretched out a stock sierra one and popped it in - it's been in there fore years.
